The veterinary field is about 80% women…but there’s always that one guy!
Let’s be honest….dogs are sneaky and will sometimes eat things they’re not supposed to! Sweet Aggie came in to see us after she ingested a sock. Her owner tried to catch her, but Aggie was too quick and down the hatch it went!
Luckily we got her in quickly and induced vomiting. It was a success and the sock was retrieved!
We’ll never know if it would have caused an obstruction or if she would have been lucky and passed it on her own. It’s always better to err on the side of caution and reduce our risk of a major surgery, especially since she’s still just a pup!
Here’s hoping she stays out of the laundry from now on. 🙃

🐈 Exciting news for our feline friends! 🐈
Osteoarthritis pain is one of the most under-treated conditions in cats. A few of the reasons for this? Cats are master manipulators! They are very good at hiding pain at home and in the clinic. They tend to only give subtle clues to indicate that they are suffering some degree of pain, and frequently we do not catch disease until it is in a more advanced stage.
For arthritis pain management, our treatment options have typically been limited. With dogs, we frequently prescribe NSAIDs as our primary drug of choice to control joint inflammation and pain. Cats, unfortunately, are very sensitive to NSAIDS and can suffer from detrimental side effects to their kidneys. There have been no approved, safe, long term pain management options for arthritic cats…UNTIL NOW!
Solensia has recently been approved by the FDA for control of osteoarthritis pain in cats, and our clinic was chosen as one of the first to gain access to it! Solensia is a once monthly, monoclonal antibody injection. Monoclonal antibodies function similar to naturally occurring antibodies, and thus are cleared from the body with minimal involvement to the kidneys and liver! The antibody in Solensia targets Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) to control pain.
The injection is given just like a vaccine—right under the skin. It can safely be given monthly as long as your cat is showing signs of pain, and also helps reduce stress with having to give daily medication at home (because medicating cats is easy, right? 😉). With minimal side effects, it is even safe for our geriatric cats that may be suffering from other health concerns.
Not sure if your cat is showing signs of arthritis? Check out this informational video below! If you’re interested in Solensia, please call us to schedule a consult. We will be happy to examine your cat and determine if Solensia is right for your pet!
