The first dog I ever owned was a beautiful black and tan mutt. shop. Well.
(16)
My mother, brother and I were grocery shopping when I spotted a litter of puppies. I was around 5 then and knew that I..needed..that..puppy! I begged my mother, and what do all good mothers say when they want the answer to be yes?
“Ask your father”
I vividly remember how heavy the black payphone handle was in my small hands. I was in tears at the weight of my dad's decision. I needed that puppy!
I rambled, through wet tears ,my plea. My Mother must have known what she was doing, what father could resist their daughter? He, of course, said yes. I can still picture the ride home in our red Oldsmobile, my brother and I asking for the next turn to hold our new little treasure. We loved her, like all children do their first pet. We named her Pudgy. She saw us through grade school, high school and into college. She will forever be a wonderful memory of my childhood. She is my inspiration for my shop, happy, fun and light hearted…Oh Pudge! My mother has always had a big heart for animals (although I may have surpassed her into the “crazy zone”) she is the reason I have become such an animal lover. She also taught me the way around a sewing machine. In college, while getting my degree in Social Work, I picked sewing up again and really began my journey. A few years later I became a stay at home mom and needed an outlet to keep me sane from all the late nights and diaper changes. So, once again, I turned to sewing. I made gifts for friends and family, lovely baby dresses, quilts, lots of curtains and many more. My journey with Oh Pudge started when I couldn't find a collar I liked for my two shelties, they either stained their beautiful white coats or were too thick and would get tangled in their hair. It is also really hot here in Texas (not sure if you knew) and the bulky nylon collars made me sweat just looking at them. One day I decided to make my girls some fun fabric collars, popped them on and forgot about it. A few weeks later we boarded our dogs, one of the employees raved about the collars and how I needed to open my own Etsy account. Alright then, lets give it a go.

After bad time fuzzies. Almost makes all that hair floating around my yard worth it.
Blitzen is on his way to his new family! He was loved fiercely by all of us for six long months. It’s always hard to say goodbye but we’re so happy to have been a part of his journey. While fostering dogs can be challenging, every time I see all the people involved in finding these dogs a homes it fills my heart with hope and joy. It’s pretty amazing.
BLITZEN IS ADOPTED!!! Blitzen is leaving us next Friday on his trip to his new forever family. And we are so excited for him! Enjoy the journey Mr. Blitz.
Silly Blitzen telling me things.
Look at this bad boy! We even had a Loose dog come after us and he had his ball and didn’t care one bit. He has come a long way! Woop woop Blitzen!
Green beans for everyone!
🥰
Gandys face says it all….😒
The more annoying the dog voice…the better the dog parent…or something like that.
I wanted to show an example of how clicker training can be applied to all forms of training. Honey and I have been working for a very long time with training so she knows when the clicker comes out it’s time to work. This is the first time that I’ve ever worked with her on “spin” and as you can see she picked it up pretty quickly. The clicker gives her a clear guide of what behavior it is I’m asking for.
That’s my clicker training PSA for today, the more you know 🌈
Excuse my “dog voice”, since Blitzen has been with us for a while I might as well start with clicker training. If you haven’t heard about clicker training it’s an amazing tool that’s helps dogs learn very quickly. Blitzen has only worked on it twice and he already know that “click” means treats! He is a smart boy.
Thought this was a great article on how to work with “reactive” dogs. Lots of times we say “that’s an aggressive dog” or “that’s a dominate dog” and in realty most of them are just reactive. Biology and how we handle situations are hardwired in us, (fight or flight). Same with dogs. This article helps outline what a reactive dog looks like and how to start training them to make better choices.

Blitzen learned fast how to let me know he wants out. He taps the door handle, which always gets your attention! It scared me at first, thinking someone was trying to get inside. Very effective, Blitzen.
Bed time 😍
Blitzen loves to help you work out. They are so helpful.
Blitzen is still looking for his forever family!
They stormed the gates for pizza!
Got a bath and enjoying the warm sunshine and a stick.
What a silly boy, he can in fact fit a frisbee and a ball in his mouth at the same time. He wants all the toys. But that blue ball is his all time favorite.

This is maddie's entry for the dog show in hostion next Wednesday-Sunday. She is obviously well trained!! Go out and see the awesome doggies and the huge craft fair they have. Oh Pudge won't be attending but a fellow hand stamped will be there with her tags and she was kind enough to take my collars. So go out and support small business and buy some collars! #houstondogshow #nrgstadium #dogshow #talent #ohpudge #handmade #craftfair #dogshowlife #dogshowing #houston
