Stars and Strides once again had the privilege of participating in the Shining Stars of Christmas special needs “Meet Santa” party in Ft. Mill, SC this year! Hosted by the Polka Family for the last 12 years, this special event allows children and young adults with disabilities and special medical needs to come meet Santa in a medically safe, sensory-sensitive environment that caters to their individual needs!

We brought along a petting zoo and provided safe pony rides with side walkers supervised by our therapeutic riding instructor! We met some special, courageous families and enjoyed every minute. We are so grateful to all the volunteers brought by the Polkas as well as our own Stars and Strides volunteers who made this possible! Can’t wait to do it again next year!

We are a little less than 2 weeks away from the Maiden Christmas Parade. We have a large float going and horses being ridden. If you are a current client and your kids or whole family would like to ride on our float please let Brooke know ASAP. Space is limited and first come first serve. You can pm the fb page or message Brooke. We ask if you ride our float to wear a red shirt/hoodie for our barn colors! We can’t wait to get into the Christmas Spirit with y’all!

ATTENTION PARENTS AND GUARDIANS:

We love having parents stay for lessons. It gives you a chance to see your child learn and grow, as well as a chance to encourage them and be a part of their experience. However, it is also extremely important that your child is able to remain focused on both the instructor and the horse during their lesson. Distractions can be both a safety issue as well as a hindrance to therapeutic riding goals, especially for riders who are young or have ADHD.

To that end, we ask that you refrain from calling out to your child or the instructor during the lesson. Calling out an occasional “way to go!” or “great job!” is not an issue, but we ask that you do not “side teach” or criticize your child (or your instructor!) during a lesson. Doing so can confuse your child, resulting in falls and potential injury.

You are always welcome to observe from any of our seating areas or around the edges of the arena, but please do not enter the arena or allow any of your other children to enter for safety reasons. The same applies for the time spent tacking up, grooming or removing tack…you are welcome to observe, but please do not enter the hallway for safety reasons.
