Hot take- just because a dog is purebred does NOT mean it’s well bred.

If you don’t understand the health problems relevant to your breed, how to fully health test them, how proper and improper structure affects their lifelong health, and how temperaments can pass onto puppies, you should not be breeding.

There are a lot of purebred dogs out there that have a lot of health, structural, and temperament problems. These usually come from backyard breeders who know nothing about breed preservation. They don’t understand that there is so much more than throwing 2 dogs together and seeing what happens just for the experience or to make some quick money.

Supporting these backyard breeders (even the purebred ones) is part of the problem.

This isn’t to say you will always get a perfect well bred dog, however if a problem does arise you will have support from that breeder. These problems do occur less frequently in well bred dogs vs poorly bred purebreds and mixed breeds.

Get a well bred dog, or adopt responsibility.

We are thrilled to be partnering with Kvali Standard Poodles for Pipers final litter! Cooper is an incredible boy and we look forward to seeing what these two produce! Breeding will take place next week with puppies hopefully arriving in October!

Cooper is a try it all guy and LOVES trying it all! He brings a lot to the table conformationally and we expect these two to produce some phenomenal dogs.

We had the pleasure of meeting this litter for their temperament tests and they are just lovely! If you’re looking for an active companion now, definitely reach out to High Desert!

Aelin (left) is 👀 for an🏃‍♀️ active sports 🏡. She would make a great companion for someone just starting to get into dog sports as she’s easy going and ready to have fun. Just like the rest of her litter, Aelin scored majority 3’s and 4’s on the aptitude test making her a wonderful choice for a first time pet owner.

Abraxos (top right) is 👀 for an experienced active 🏃‍♀️ sports 🏡. He would thrive in a home that prioritizes training and schedules. He is a super loving boy who will strongly attach to his person but needs someone dedicated to mentally challenge him through training or other sports outlets.

Aedion (bottom right)👀 for a 🐩 show home. He would be perfect for someone just starting to dip their toes in to the show world. Aedion is a big teddy bear and is super easy going. He will likely be a large male with a luxuriously plush and correct coat.
He would be fantastic for someone excited to maintain a proper poodle coat and even better for someone who wants to try creative grooming after showing.

If you’re looking for an adult poodle, Atlas is a great boy! He was the sire to our Reindeer litter (2022) ❤️

I am casually 👀 for a retirement 🏠 for Atlas.

The perfect 🏡:

🎾Atlas is a low drive, medium energy dog. He loves to play fetch, go on hikes, go camping and cuddling on the couch.
🐩 He would be happy being the center of attention.
👑 He is a UKC Grand Champion. He has been used in 4-H and Juniors and loves it. He has his Novice trick dog and Home manners titles.
💉 He will be up to date on vaccines, deworming, and neutered before being placed.

Atlas is LOVED and we will be very picky on where he goes. This is all part is being a breeder. Yes, it’s extremely difficult to place dogs but realistically, we can’t keep all the dogs.

🐉Swayde🐉 had her spay today. She will be on crate rest for the next couple weeks until fully healed. She isn’t quite sure what to make of her “Cone of Shame” yet.
We will keep it easy these next couple weeks so she can hopefully have a speedy recovery and be back to her usual active self.

Dot ended our weekend with a Group 3 and a Group 4 ❤️
As you can tell she did not want to be on the chair for pictures 🤪
No love for our poodles today but the puppies are loving the ring time and doing fantastic at the show just chilling.

Our next UKC show isn’t until November.. so pups will be getting summer hairdos this week to have summer fun!

Another great day for Country Sides!

🐲Dot 🐲earned Best of Breed and a group 2 placing in a large herding group lineup for both shows!

🌷Maude 🌷earned Best of Winners show 2 earning her another competition win towards her CH.

Maude and Doom are just loving being in the ring ❤️

🦜Birdie 🦜(my sisters Brittany) earned Best of Breed and a Group 3 placement. She has been shown by Lyndee (our jr handler who is usually with us always at shows) this weekend too! Going second in her class both shows today for Jrs. 💜

We had a great first day at Canyonlands Canine Association in Farmington UT!
Doom and Maude had their very first show with the “big leagues” as we say. This is their first show since Novice puppy.

Maude took Best of Breed and a Gundog Group 3!
This earned her first leg towards her CH!
I am just tickled with my girl! She was so happy the whole time and we just made it fun!

We are all deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Kaz Hosaka, a legendary handler and cherished member of the Westminster family.

Kaz's kindness, dedication, passion, and exceptional talent left an indelible mark on the world of dog shows. Our deepest condolences to his wife Roxanne and their family, and all who knew and loved him.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the early retirement of our Swayde from our program... she unfortunately did not pass her hips for her health testing..
This is the hardest part about breeding or having potential programs. She is my first well bred cattle dog and these things unfortunately happen and it’s why we health test!! she’s been my first AKC show prospect, she has helped me grow so much these last couple years as a handler. ❤️

We will be spaying her and she will be retired from the show ring. But we hope to continue doing the things she loves.

This is why I love crate training.
While Dot recovers she isn’t stressed, I’m not stressed about her getting up on furniture, or running around. We are both stress free.❤️🐲

Dot is home!! And back to her happy crazy self ❤️🤣 it makes me so happy to see her back to herself 😭😭 she will be on crate rest for the next 12-14 days.

Dot is out of surgery and she did have a blockage.

We do NOT do soft toys at our house for this very reason… but she thought a rag was a good idea to eat.. I’m just glad they got out what she wasn’t supposed to have and we will get to bring her home tomorrow. ❤️‍🩹

I’m so grateful I followed my gut and took her in as quickly as I did.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers! ❤️ now for a speedy recovery for our girl ❤️
