With summer festivities kicking off, we want to remind you about the symptoms of heatstroke and prevention tips:

-Never leave your pet unattended in a car
-When hot/humid, keep your pet’s time outdoors limited ​
-Keep your pet hydrated​
-Ensure your pet has ventilation and a cool environment​
-Dogs with short noses are at higher risk due to their condensed facial anatomy and restricted ability to cool themselves​
-If any signs of heat stroke appear, contact our team immediately. ​

Check out this handsome boy, Baldy! His family has fallen on hard times and we are happy to help keep this dapper dude and his 5 kitty siblings together. Baldy and two of the other kitties have sensitive tummies and eat Purina Cat Chow Sensitive Stomachs (purple bag) to keep them healthy. If anyone would like to donate a bag, it can be dropped in one of our donation bins located at Beach Buddies Animal Hospital, Stafford Veterinary Hospital, or Mays Landing Veterinary Hospital. Is your pet scooting or licking their rear? It could be their a**l glands.

A**l glands are located on the rear of dogs and cats. The glands produce an oily, fishy-smelling fluid that helps with scent marking. Sometimes these glands can get impacted or infected.

Soft, consistent stool, as well as allergies, are common causes of irritation. If your pet is scooting, licking excessively, or showing signs of discomfort around their rear end, contact us! We will help to identify the cause and determine the best course of treatment.
