Recently, many new faces (and snoots!) have joined our clientele- don't worry! We have a full staff of dedicated, enthusiastic people ready to service all our furry clients, new and old, whenever you need. But we were curious as to why so many people were leaving their previous groomers and switching to us. The response was unanimous: other grooming salons have raised their prices, claiming it is the result of both inflation and the pandemic.
Well, here at Yappie Cuttery, our prices have remained the same throughout the pandemic and despite inflation. Our determination to ensure pet care is affordable and accessible stems from our firm belief that no one should be forced to sacrifice their furry family member's care and upkeep due to economic fluctuations.
We are thrilled to welcome our new clients and we extend our deepest gratitude to our existing clients; it is, and always has been, an honor and joy to serve you and your pets!

Has your pup developed rough, scratchy or cracked paw pads? Maybe their nose looks dry and scaly? Just like humans, dogs can experience dry and/or chapped skin! It can sometimes be a year-round issue but is often most prevalent during the winter when the air is cold and dry. There are plenty of dog paw balms to be found online or at your local pet shop; however, there are plenty of drugstore ointments (that you might just have in your home already!) which work just as well and are non-toxic to dogs.
Our go-to is A&D ointment, but Vaseline or any other petroleum jelly-based ointments work just as well. Alternatively, Mane & Tail Hoofmaker is great- for both you and your dog's skin! It has a lighter, lotion consistency and absorbs faster than a jelly ointment.
Prior to application, be sure to gently wipe down their paws with a warm damp cloth to allow for a clean, bare surface for the ointment. During application, you should take time to gently massage the ointment into the paw pads. Not only will this feel nice for your pet, but it'll ensure a greater amount of the moisturizer is able to be absorbed before your pet inevitably attempts to lick it away. Repeat this process weekly and your furry friend will surely be grateful!

Have you noticed your pet seems excessively itchy? Maybe their eyes and nose are runny? Seasonal allergies affect dogs just as much as their human counterparts. You probably already knew that, but did you know those pesky allergens (pollens, mold and fungal spores, etc.) can accumulate on your pet's coat every time they go outside? No matter how many allergy meds you and your pet consume, your symptoms will be perpetually aggravated by the constant exposure of your pet's pollen-laden coat.
Thankfully the solution is simple: a monthly bath and brush out! Should you lack the time, space, or energy to routinely bathe your pet, but you want the hay fever to ease up, come on over to Yappie Cuttery! We will be more than happy to help your household breathe easier.

Ah, the circle of siblinghood. Chase started off as a little chocolate menace and was barely tolerated by his older sister, Alley. Several years later, the role of "little menace" was bestowed to Pip, Chase's new little brother, who lived up to the title. Thankfully, Chase was very patient. An addition to last week's post about the dangers of the summer heat:
It is important to have a water source for your pet when they will be outside for longer than 15 minutes. Some examples of this are: keeping a bowl of clean water in a shaded area of your yard, carrying a water bottle (and a portable bowl if you don't wish to use your hand) with you during every walk or outing, and/or ensuring there is a water fountain that your dog can use along your walk route or at the dog park.
When carrying a bottle as the source of water, it is your responsibility to ensure your pet has a water-break every 15 minutes. Regular water-breaks are vital to avoid heatstroke, a heat-related illness that is quick to become fatal.

As we venture through the hottest months of the year, we'd like to remind all pet owners to be conscious of the pavement heat when walking your beloved companion. Dog booties are an effective way to protect your pooch's paws from burns and blistering; otherwise, it is recommended to restrict your walks to the coolest times of the day: early morning or late evening.
Remember: if you wouldn't be able to handle walking barefooted on the pavement, neither would your dog!
