Barkley came in yesterday as a referral from another client as sweet as ever. Mom and dad noticed that he had a profound cough that has been happening but gradually got worse over the weekend. Thankfully we were able to get them in same day as momma was super concerned.

Looks like after taking some x-rays we found out that he has a collapsing trachea and we are starting him on some meds for heart and liver enlargement as well. All things considered he is a very happy boy and we can’t wait to see him at his recheck appointment next week.

Izzy update:

Just wanted to let everyone know that Izzy is doing good and recovering nicely at home. Dr brown was able to remove the spleen beautifully I did attach a picture of both Izzy and the mass on her spleen!

Hey PWAH family,

Wanted to give you all a quick story about our Manager Dezirae’s little girl Izzy!

**Please take a moment to read the background story so that way you understand the pictures. **

Izzy came in March for annual exam, lab work, and X-rays. Dezirae has been monitoring her tracheal irritation she has because she was previously diagnosed with a collapsed trachea as well as take her normal yearly X-rays on her pets. ( normal for most smaller dogs nothing to be majorly concerned about for collapsed trachea )

At that time you will see she had normal labs and X-rays . ( Which is the first image of lab work and second image normal Xray. )

Well on Monday (3 short months later from normal labs and X-rays )… Dezirae was using Izzy for her and Brooke’s final test on the ultrasounds ( yay they both passed ) however we found something completely unexpected on the ultrasound.

On Ultrasound you can see Dezirae point to an image that comes in and it’s what we call a splenic mass( mass found on the spleen ). It was large and noticeable on ultrasound so after the procedure Dezirae opted into taking an Xray as well to see how big it was on that image as well. (Youll see it circled in the Xray). Which then lead her to repeat lab work so we can have that back prior to anesthesia. ( all pets get lab work same day of anesthesia which is included in all surgeries to make sure your pet is healthy enough before going under anesthesia. We want best outcomes for all our furry family members )

Hard to believe in 3 short months there can be so much change but it goes to show in a very quick time she went from not having any abnormalities on her lab work and radiographs to having major abnormalities.

( I will add that clinically Izzy has been acting completely normal on her day to day routine at home with no issues nor was Dezirae having any concerns about her health )

So when you hear Dr Brown or other doctors wanting to do lab work, additional diagnosing images, or diagnostics forms to confirm things these are what we are looking at and to help rule out major complications !

Izzy goes to surgery to have her Spleen removed Friday and we will biopsy that spleen and mass to see what it is going on.

Dezirae wanted to share her story with Izzy here with you to make sure everyone knows why we do repeat things because of instances like this where things can change very quickly in a short time and having unexpected findings like so.

If you have any questions about lab work or wanting to take precautionary Radiographs don’t hesitate to call and we can help get those scheduled for your pet. Dezirae does yearly X-rays on her dogs as a precaution which is why in March they were done.

Sad news to hear Izzy has to go into surgery but good news we caught it and can help fix the issue now and not when it’s life threatening or when the mass has ruptured inside the body wall and her poor girl is having bleeding internal issues.

I know it’s long and we apologize but want to thank you for reading this story! Wish Izzy some luck and her surgical team Friday we know she will be in great hands! 💜

Welcome this sweet little girl to the PWAH family.

Let me introduce to you Miss Betty White. Miniature dachshunds with lots of love to give.

She stole the hearts of many at the office on Thursday. Her new furr brother Sparky comes in a couple times a week to get Laser therapy done for his arthritis. When his mom told us she got Betty White we all were so excited to meet her.

Can’t wait to see her for her vaccine boosters in a couple weeks.

This little cutie came in yesterday for surgery to get a mass removed and for it to get sent off for Biopsy!

Look how sweet Mando looks in his little cone!

Brooke our Lead Veterinary Nurse was with him in surgery yesterday and gave him all the love and cuddles this boy could have ever imagined!

Our Lead Veterinary Nurse Brooke and Manager Dezirae is on their 3rd Module of 5 becoming Oncura Abdominal Ultrasound Certified!

Take a peak at our new equipment and Brooke practicing her 3rd module today on one of Dr Browns furr babies( under a little bit of sedation )!

Dr Brown just became Certified in Ultrasounds with Oncura herself! She has been certified in ultrasounds for many years before today but with new equipment we still have to renew our certifications!

Who is ready for a great June?!? Today we will be closed for our first weekend of the month Training day with the team- feel free to stop in and pick up any medications as needed but the phones will be turned off- we will still listen to voicemails throughout the day.

Happy Friday!

Here’s a little office update::

This past month has been a little crazy we all have worked really hard so we decided to have a team bonding experience and we all went to get some much needed pedicures together.

Mrs Dawn our lead CSR adopted from Manassas City Animal Adoption Center a new baby boy Bentley. Little white dog seen in the pictures his before and after has been so great. He came in to the office from the shelter for an exam the day he was originally picked up from an abandoned junkyard with a bad skin infection. He instantly stole the hearts of Dawn and her husband Calvin.

Then little Roxxie is here today enjoying being able to say hello to everyone that comes in today. Come say hi!

Ms Tyana will be back in to the office for June and July during her school break - come make sure to say hi to her before she goes back to school again!

We are so excited to see what June has in store for us here. We did get some new technology which we are all very excited to share with you very soon!

Spring is here! With this we are excited to offer 10% off a microchip. It's the season where our pets are outside more- can easily get startled by something and run off or get scared from the upcoming Holiday noise. Because of all the upcoming holidays and summer months coming we wanted to make sure our pets have an Identification to get back to their 2 legged families by offering 10% off any microchips scheduled for May and June.

Happy May!

We hope everyone had a great month of April. We were sooo busy here with doing lots of training since we added some newer team members and growing Brooke and Dawn into new exciting positions within our office but also busy helping all the pets that came through we wanted to post some pictures to help recap April!

Mr Wilson came in for a visit today and specifically asked to see Mrs Dawn however since she was off today he got all of us here working today to give him all the attention and treats! 🐾💙🐾

Just want to give a couple people a huge shout out tonight! An owner noticed her pup stopped eating and brought her dog into the office for a check up. This pup is usually a happy, bouncy 3 year old lab today he was real quiet and not feeling good.

Dawn with her amazing CSR skills knew right away we needed to work this pup in so we were able to squeeze the family in this afternoon for an appointment.

During the appointment, Dr Brown thought it was best to rule out a potential foreign body. Turns out there was something foreign in there. We have the material circled in the picture.

Not only was Dr Brown able to diagnose the problem by doing X-rays but we were also able to do surgery this afternoon thanks to such amazing support staff.

Madison and Caleigh were able to help finish out the last 2 appointments and help close up the office while Brooke our surgical technician and Dezirae the Office Manager got right to work on getting the big guy set up and prepared for surgery.

Everyone jumped right into action! Brooke, Dezirae and Dr Brown were in the office until about 745 tonight helping to save this life!

We have such amazing staff staying behind extra hours to make sure we are able to help this pet!

Thank you to everyone that helped out today and was patient with all of us while we worked diligently to help this baby boy start to feel better!

See you all bright and early tomorrow morning!

We had little Rocky come for his first puppy visit last week and let me tell you he was the sweetest most gentle baby boy ever! At only 14 weeks of age, he isn’t pulling on the leash, takes treats gently, knows how to sit and loves to give high fives and shakes like a little gentleman!

We were able to help 16 patients restart their oral health last month! Not only did we help their oral health, but oral hygiene, as you have seen, is linked to everything in the body, like heart, liver, and kidneys health as well!

Here at PWAH, we strive to help go the extra mile when it comes to the care we give, because of this the office is extending the dental discount for March. We are calling it our☘️ March Madness Special for the month☘️.
