Hey Buddies, animal lovers, kind hearts, those who save, and those who help in many other ways,
The next two days are Amazon Prime Specials Days (7/16-17), Target Circle (7/13-7/20) and Walmart RollBack for the next few weeks…. Online shoppers paradise.
If you can, please send or get even just one item for a local shelter or rescue. Something needed but so simple like a treat bag, leash, collar, bed, cleaning products, laundry detergent, towels, birdseed, kitten formula, blankets, litter boxes, bowls, cages, turtle food, nail clippers, toys. Anything will help as every foster, shelter, rescue, etc is running on fumes and over capacity.

Surrenders and abandonments are at an all time high and adoptions and fosters are at the lowest point over the past decade. It’s heartbreaking.
This is your time to shine and be an animal advocate 🤞🏼🤍.

Changing this up a little. As she enters her twilight I have been dedicated to making sure she has experiences and adventures as well as lots of family time, peaceful times, love and of course treats. So we are pivoting and these posts will be her bucket list photos. She’s had a remarkable life and it will end with her knowing only good times.
For Fourth of July, she went swimming, to the beach, rode around in her new jeep, ate lots of crab legs, slept by the pool and had so much love. 🇺🇸

Heartbreaking loss for our rescue community. Unimaginable loss for their family and the dogs lost in the fire.

😮‍💨 Our dear friends Jessica & Brad; the founders of Margaret’s Saving Grace Bully Rescue suffered a devastating house fire last night. They lost their home, 4 dogs (Including Margaret the entire REASON behind MSGBR) & two other dogs are at the Emergency Vet🙏🏼

Jessica loves her dogs so much she stayed in the burning house with them even after her husband left. 😭 She didn’t want to leave them. She wanted to go with them. 💔 At the last minute her husband & the FD were able to get her to jump out of the second story window; but sadly she had to leave them behind. 🕊️🌈

One of their dogs is unaccounted for & is presumed to have escaped the house. We are using donations from Zeus to pay it forward and we have called out Joshua with Precision Drone Services - Deer Recovery and Lost Pet Search and Rescue. He will be arriving this evening to help search. 🙏🏼🤞🏻

I know we have been asking for a lot lately - but we need; actually we are BEGGING OUR VILLAGE to come TOGETHER for MSGBR!🙏🏼

Everyday….countless pleas for help, money, rehoming, medicine, supplies. It breaks you, not just financially but emotionally. Please remember an animal is forever but PLEASE take them to a shelter or safe place if you can’t keep your family member. Don’t abandon or worse, kill them.
This is just getting worse. We will keep trying. 🙏

Due to the high volume of calls we have been receiving, please listen closely to the following options and choose the one that best describes you or your situation:

Press 1 if you have a 10-year-old dog and your 15-year-old son has suddenly become allergic and you need to find the dog a new home right away.

Press 2 if you are moving today and need to immediately place your 150 pound, 8-year-old dog.

Press 3 if you have three dogs, had a baby and want to get rid of your dogs because you are the only person in the world to have a baby and dogs at the same time.

Press 4 if you just got a brand new puppy and your old dog is having problems adjusting so you want to get rid of the old one right away.

Press 5 if your little puppy has grown up and is no longer small and cute and you want to trade it in for a new model.

Press 6 if you want an unpaid volunteer to come to your home TODAY and pick up the dog you no longer want.

Press 7 if you have been feeding and caring for a “stray” for the
last three years, are moving and suddenly determine it’s not your dog.

Press 8 if your dog is sick and needs a vet but you need the money for your vacation.

Press 9 if you are elderly and want to adopt a cute puppy who is not active and is going to outlive you.

Press 10 if your relative has died and you don’t want to care for
their elderly dog because it doesn’t fit your lifestyle.

Press 11 if your cat is biting and not using the litter box because
it is declawed, but you are not willing to accept the responsibility
that the cat’s behavior is altered because of your nice furniture.

Press 12 if your two-year old male dog is marking all over your house but you just haven’t gotten around to having him neutered.

Press 13 if you previously had an outdoor only dog and are calling because she is suddenly pregnant.

Press 14 if you are calling at 6 a.m. to make sure you wake me up before I have to go to work so you can drop a dog off on your way to work.

Press 15 to leave us an anonymous garbled message, letting us know you have left a dog in our yard in the middle of January, which is in fact, better than just leaving the dog with no message.

Press 16 if you are going to get angry because we are not going to take your dog that you have had for fifteen years, because it is not our responsibility.

Press 17 if you are going to threaten to take your ten-year old dog to be euthanized because I won’t take it.

Press 18 if you’re going to get angry because the volunteers had the audacity to go on vacation and leave the dogs in care of a trusted volunteer who is not authorized to take your personal pet.

Press 19 if you want one of our PERFECTLY trained, housebroken, kid and cat friendly purebred dogs that we have an abundance of.

Press 20 if you want us to take your dog that has a slight
aggression problem, i.e. has only bitten a few people and killed your neighbor’s cats.

Press 21 if you have already called once and been told we don’t take personal surrenders but thought you would get a different person this time with a different answer.

Press 22 if you want us to use space that would go to a stray to
board your personal dog while you are on vacation, free of charge, of course.

Press 23 if it is Christmas Eve or Easter morning and you want me to deliver an eight week old puppy to your house by 6:30 am before your kids wake up.

Press 24 if you have bought your children a duckling, chick or baby bunny for Easter and it is now Christmas and no longer cute.

Press 25 if you want us to take your female dog who has already had ten litters, but we can’t spay her because she is pregnant again and it is against your religion.

Press 26 if you’re lying to make one of our younger volunteers feel bad and take your personal pet off your hands.

Press 27 if you have done “everything” to housebreak your dog and have had no success but you don’t want to crate the dog because it is cruel.

Press 28 if you didn’t listen to the message asking for an evening phone number and you left your work number when all volunteers are also working and you are angry because no one called you back.

Press 29 if you need a puppy immediately and cannot wait because today is your daughter’s birthday and you forgot when she was born.

Press 30 if your dog’s coat doesn’t match your new furniture and you need a different color or breed.

Press 31 if your new love doesn’t like your dog and you are too
stupid to get rid of the new friend (who will dump you in the next
month anyway) instead of the dog.

Press 32 if you went through all these ‘options’ and didn’t hear
enough. This press will connect you to the sounds of tears being shed by one of our volunteers who is holding a discarded old dog while the vet mercifully frees him from the grief of missing his family.

We, in partnership with Dave's Dogs, are sponsoring the Dogs Days of Summer Adoption Event NEXT WEEKEND (August 5th & 6th) at the Prince William County Animal Services Bureau.

Similar to the highly successful Valentine’s Day Speed Dating Event, this event will feature select adoptable dogs showcased by dedicated shelter dog walkers to allow potential adopters get to know them more easily and away from the noisy kennels.

All adoption fees for dogs will be paid for jointly by us and Dave’s Dogs and all dog adopters will get a gift bag with PWAA and DD swag plus coupons for a free meal at Dave’s Dogs, a coupon for a free grooming at Lucky Dog Grooming and a coupon for a free collar/harness and leash set by Pet Gear by Debbie.

If you know of someone thinking about adopting a dog, this is a wonderful opportunity to come out, meet the dogs and show everyone how awesome shelter dogs can be. Plus, with these local partnerships, adopters will have some excellent resources for getting their new family members all settled in. Let’s get some deserving dogs their loving homes!

🐱🐶Today is Day!🐶🐱 Nearly 750 fires🔥 are accidentally started by homeowners' pets each year. Create and practice a home escape plan with your whole family, included!

😻Here are some tips:

🐾Pets are curious. They may bump into, turn on, or knock over cooking equipment. Keep pets away from stoves, stove k***s, and countertops.

🐾Keep pets away from candles, lamps, and space heaters. Ensure your pet is never left unattended around an open flame. Consider battery-operated, flameless candles.

🐾Always use a metal or heat-tempered glass screen on a fireplace and keep it in place. Have a “pet-free zone” of at least 3 feet away from the fireplace, stove, and grill.

🐾Watch pets (especially puppies) to make sure they don’t chew through electrical cords. Have any problems checked by a professional.

🐾Have working smoke alarms on every level of the home. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month.

🐾Never go back inside for pets in a fire. Tell firefighters if your pet is trapped.

🐾Include information about your pets in your Smart911 Safety Profile so that first responders are better prepared to help your pets in an emergency.
