This is Cow, who is the heart-throb of our newly finished Cat Community Room. He is a very loving, social, and quirky boy who has been catching the hearts of everyone who lays eyes on him. He has been with us for 228 days now & is as READY as ever for his forever home to come find him 🐄

"Hi everyone, my name is Cow. I have a little bit of a different story than some cats you may know. I was trapped during a cold winter by a kind person who brought me to the shelter. I was really scared at first & needed some help with my ears, but after lots of time, patience and TLC, I’m feeling so much better now!

I’ll admit, I can sometimes be shy when I meet new people. It just takes me a little time to feel safe. But once I know you’re a friend, I get super excited to see you and love all the pets you can give! Want to know the fastest way to my heart? Food! I love snacks, and they’re the best way to win me over.

Since I moved into the Cat community room on the 27th, I have REALLY come out of my shell. I absolutely love to perch on the highest surface and watch all the other feline peasants below me. I nap in the hidey beds, watch our parakeet through the window with poise & am starting to be very cuddly with the other boys in the room. Being cage free has really been a blessing for me, and my other FIV+ friends!

Yes, that's right, I’m FIV+, but don’t let that scare you—cats like me can live long, happy lives with just a bit of extra care. I’m really looking for someone who will be patient and kind with me. If you think we could be a good match, I can’t wait to meet you 🩶"

Happy Halloween! We would love to announce that our Pumpkin King, Prince, will be available for adoption soon! He is not on our website yet. 👑

Prince has an amazing personality wrapped up in his 50lb body. He is like well tamed, jet pack of energy. He will do his zoomies and come back straight into a command, what a good boy! We brought him into our play yard and he demonstrated how agile he is by climbing all over our ramp on his own accord, doing twirls in the air, frog hopping, perching on the table, and giving Miko an incredible amount of kisses & love.

He was a good boy when we put his sweater on, and it didn't seem to bother him for our Halloween Fashion Shoot. We are dubbing him the Pumpkin 'King' because he looks TOO good in orange. ✨

Prince did live with another small dog in his previous home, but has shown us that he is a bit stressed around other dogs while here at the shelter. He does have potential to do well with a smaller, dog savvy dog in his new home. There is a possibility he would do with older dog savvy teens +, but no small children. We would love to introduce everyone to our wonderful Cat Volunteer, Jess! Jess is an absolute sweetheart who has been with our shelter for a while now. She has over 813 Volunteer hours logged, and we KNOW its much more than that!

Jess, thank you so much for entering in your hours every single shift. The more volunteer hours we can accrue, the more access we have to grants that will support our shelter. You are amazing at this, keep it up!

Always willing to help us in any way we ask, Jess is a part of our Cat Volunteer Team, helps us with our events, cats getting socialization, posting from our Lost & Found Pet Report page, assisting with general shelter support & more! She is the multitasking queen.

Jess has proven time & again she is dedicated to the animals, especially our kitties. Her role as a Cat Care Volunteer & Socializer really helps these cats bridge the experience of being on the streets, alone and scared, to being comforted and feeling safe in our shelter setting. She works with a lot of our cats who need a little extra TLC. She will spend time with them listening to what they need, reading their body language, giving them outside cage time, encouraging them to socialize & ultimately being there for them however they need.

She is also one of the reasons we have so many cute pictures of the cats to show you all. She is amazing with the animals and is a shoulder to lean on for them. We can tell how comfortable the cats feel with her & they reward her with their love & affection! We can tell they appreciate her consistency of being here on a weekly basis!

"Oh hello there darling! My name is Bubbles. I am a gorgeous & radiant 11 year old girl who has been waiting FAR to long for my family to realize I am here waiting for them. I have spent almost a year with my shelter friends, and although I love them, and I love my foster family, finding a home for the holidays sounds like a dream! Look at my scrumptious face and tell me I'm not beautiful... you just can't! I would not mind beautifying up your home, as long as there are plenty of sofas to cuddle on, and treats to snack on. Please just make sure you apply for me! I am with my foster family so you would need an appointment to meet with me."

We got a snippet from Bubble's foster dad, who says, "Bubbles is a long haired gray and buff colored kitty who loves to be around people. She will come running to the door to meet you when you come home, sit with you while you veg out on the couch, and get up and come find you if she wakes up and you have left the room. She is very soft and fluffy like a small fluff pillow. She doesn’t ask to be picked up and held but will let you do that if you want to.

She loves to play string and can get a little rough. She also runs from
one end of the room to the other to play hide and seek but she seems to think if any part of her body is out of sight you can’t see her. It never takes more than about 5 seconds to find her. She likes wet and dry food and always neatly uses her litter box. She loves watching out the window and would probably like to go out in a protected yard. She doesn’t like being left alone for hours at a time and might be a little too rough for children to be around. Our best estimate is that she is 10 years old but she seems much younger."

Fan is another one of our single male pigs, who you may of read the other day when we posted about his foster friend, Mead.

Fan is a bit more reserved than Mead & has been making lots of good progress! He has grown to be "okay" with being picked up and cuddled, and sometimes he will even sing you a special song. He is still a bit on the skittish side.

Today Fan came back to the shelter, so he can have some exposure when we have our reverse Trick or Treating event this weekend! Make sure you come and see him and make his trip worth while!

When Fan went into his new cage, he immediately started talking to our other Male guinea pig, Computer. They have been talking all day! Fan is definitely a chatty boy and it is quite possible he would like a cage mate if time allows a proper introduction between them. He did great being with Mead in the same cage, with a cage barrier between them. However when the barrier was removed, Fan and Mead would be a bit too rough with each other.

If someone would be willing to adopt out 2 single males, and work on getting them acquainted over a period of time in their new home, I'm sure Fan wouldn't be completely opposed! If you do go this route, please understand it can take a number of weeks, sometimes months, to bond guinea pigs. And sometimes they just do not want to share their home, and that's okay!

Fan is a quirky guinea pig. He likes what he likes, and he strongly dislikes what he chooses to hate. For example, if offered spinach, he absolutely will not touch it. Being the diva that he is, we have found him to be a bit picky with his treats.

Hello there!

While fighting crime and keeping the city safe, I also remind people how important it is to eat your veggies! (Something I struggle with, I just want to snack on my bugs! Now I eat a daily Bug Salad to get the best of both! 🤣)

Mead is a single, handsome male guinea pig who has spent the last 125 days wondering who wants to make him a part of their forever family!

The reason Mead is a single boy is because while at the shelter, he was getting picked on to the point of serious injury. We had to separate him from the others in order to get him back to proper health and make sure he was ready for adoption.

He went into foster care where he absolutely came out of his shell! He is a spunky boy who has quite a bit of personality. He loved being in a foster setting where he could loosen up and relax after being bullied in his other cages. We would find him popcorning all around his cage, and in his outsider play pen, too.

Soon enough, the foster family brought home another male guinea to try and merge them, since guinea pigs are such social critters. Mead's foster family had tried slowly over the last few months to get him, and Fan, to agree to be friends, but ultimately Mead told us he may just want to stay as a single pig!

Mead does like having Fan on the other side of his cage with a barrier in between, so he could potentially be good with another friend as long as there is a barrier between them in a controlled setting!

Mead has shown us that he is actually VERY brave. The two cats in his foster home are very curious about him and his friends. Mead has NO qualms about turning his back on the cats and giving a "nanana-boo-boo" vibe. Mead has touched noses with the cats multiple times, so we are sure he would be fine in a home with cats as long as the cats can respect his space.

Since being with us in his foster home, he has actually become a very social little dude. He loves being held, and is not scared of it anymore! When you hold him on your shoulders, he lets out a very cute grumble song that he really will only make for his foster dad. It seems like he prefers men!

It's Totally Available Tuesday ~ Meet Shakes! ❤️

Shakes is a 9 month old puppy! He is super smart and playful!! He would love to be your one and only pet in the home.

He absolutely loves running around, playing with toys and passing by to be petted mid-run! And did we mention belly rubs!?!? One of his favorite things!!

He is extremely smart and would love to be enrolled in obedience classes so he can keep learning!

Success Story Saturday! We have had a very eventful 2 weeks at the shelter. Look at all of these animals who found their forever homes, and have given us updates about their adoption stories!

Adopted this week: Miss Manners, Pomegranate, Acai, Tundra, Persimmon & Buck!

Animals thriving in their homes: Bookmark (now Burrow), Shancai (settling in with her new friend Banana Bread who was adopted from us back in March) & Gopher!

A note from Shancai's new family: "Shancai has acclimated very well to our home and you won't believe it but she and Banana Breads enjoy playing with each other! Banana Bread has been more than willing to invite her into her safe space and they enjoy sleeping together under our bed. Shancai has had no issues with accident urination and she really loves to cuddle. She keeps us up all night wanting to snuggle and sleep on us. I never thought shed even like to go under the blanket to sleep as well."

A note from Gopher's family: "I wanted to give you an update on Gopher! He is the absolute love of our lives. We go hiking, running, and have lots of toys for play time. He will do ANYTHING for the easy cheese still! It’s awesome! I just have to hold the can and he’s right at my side sitting lol. Thank you so much for our amazing new family member we are so thankful and grateful to have Gopher”

Featured Friday: Meet Gina Zafirakis! *Updated Volunteer Hours & Duration*

Gina became a volunteer with us back in June of 2022 and has grown to become one of our most trusted small animal volunteers. She used to come in and volunteer with one of her clients 4 hours a day! For the last 2 1/2 years, Gina has showed us that she is a hard-working, dedicated soul who is adamant that every animal MUST get a snuggle in while she is on her shift. I see her interacting and cuddling with our small animals every single time she is in; goes to say she is a very loving person.

She was telling me a bit about her ADORABLE cat that she adopted from us ~ 8 years ago, Chunkin, who you can see pictured here. Gina says that she loves Chunkin so, so much, and she lives up to her name "Chunkin", weighing in at 20lbs! The weight is caused by a medical condition that causes her to be a little chubby, and there is more of her to love that way 🩵

Chunkin and Bulbasaur, her rabbit you see pictured, are actually BEST FRIENDS! "It's adorable," Gina says, "She thinks he's a cat!" She calls them the "Odd Couple" 😂

Gina, once again thank you for all that you do for our shelter & especially our small animals. They love to see you, and must feel so seen with the unconditional love you continuously bring to each individual animal. You are an absolute angel! 🐇🐀🦔

Dragon fruit, Papaya, Rambutan & Lychee are still available for adoption! We CAN'T believe they haven't been scooped up yet.

They are ~ 2 month old Wirehaired Terrier Mixes who have been in foster care for the past few weeks while they await their S/N surgeries, which are being done on the 21st. They are absolutely adorable little land sharks that just want your love & affection!

Adventure Thursday Starring ⭐ Oscar! ⭐

✨It's the week of Oscar! ✨

We just know it's his time to have his happily ever after! Oscar Mayer, JR was the star of WZID Manchester's Pet of the Week! He was a perfect gentleman in the car, sitting in the seat, taking in all the sights and smells. He loved meeting everyone at the radio station and enjoyed a nice walk in the park. ❤️

What's the Scoop Wednesday? The scoop is.. Black Cat Syndrome.

"Black cat syndrome is the theory that people tend to pass on adopting black cats, making it so that these cats remain in shelters for the longest time & makes it harder for them to find their forever homes in a timely matter. The reasons that black cats may be adopted at a lower rate than other colors of cats include: Difficulty in photographing them, Difficulty in reading facial expressions, and... Superstition"

Sweet Cheeks - Senior Kitty - 11 years old, here for 369 days.
Currently in a foster home, she is a very sweet girl.

"She enjoys having her own room but we also keep the door open when we are home. She likes to watch the goings on in my home since I have 8 other cats and two dogs. She doesn’t mind the other cats but sometimes gets overwhelmed when they crowd her space. I found recently that she loves Churu paste treats. I have been able to pet her as long as I’m gentle, slow, and keep the paste treat going. She loves most any treats.

She needs a home that is willing to admire her from afar right now but she certainly has potential. She has never swatted me or been aggressive toward me or my cats. She will ignore my little sh*tzu mix so she can likely be in a home with a small dog who will ignore her. I do not recommend any home with kids.

She loves to look out the window and cat nap in her two cat beds. She doesn’t play and doesn’t use any of the toys. I have only caught her playing chase with herself once. It doesn’t seem like she knows how. "

Detective Stabler - 4 year old male, here for 30 days. Our volunteers call him the "most perfect boy"

Detective Olivia Benson - Senior Girl - 11 years old, here for 30 days. She is not fond of other cats and likes her independence.

Lemon - 1 year and 4 months old, here for 343 days. "It has been disclosed that I have a sweet tooth... for peasant food. So if you have something lingering around such as cookies or pastries, please hide them from me because I WILL steal them from you. I may be a princess, but I am also as sneaky as Robin Hood!"

PSA: THE PUG IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

We appreciate the attention that this little girl has been getting since coming through our doors. We have been trying to do EVERYTHING we can to find her owner, we know they must be out there. Please respect our process and understand that this dog is not available for adoption at the moment. We are not accepting applications for her at this time. We are getting more interest and attention for this one dog, than all of our other available dogs.

Please only inquire about the pug if you have details on who you think her owner might be. We will need proof of ownership, proof of rabies, and a photo ID to claim her.
