A defense mechanism of day geckos is they "slough" off their skin; entire sections will slide off as a defense mechanism. Sometimes the male is unfortunately too rough and skin is lost in the breeding process. This is normal, and as long as the skin is not scabbing, bleeding, or 30% of the skin is missing they should make a full recovery.

Leopard geckos will wiggle their tail to distract prey before they strike, wether the prey can see the tail or not. It's pretty cute.
