Meet our new rescues! Strings, Fargo, and Lapis! We have our first female rescue! All three of these are owner surrenders. Strings is currently up for adoption. Fargo and Lapis should be up for adoption very soon. The website has also been updated, so please feel free to read more about our new rescues. There will also be 9 more females joining the rescue next week, so let’s find some of these babies their forever homes!! ❤️

Little Khan is starting to feel a little better. He is more responsive than he was yesterday and is using his pectoral fins to stay upright! He is being treated with methylene blue along with Seachem Stressguard, Kordon Fish Protector, and a weekly dose of Boyd Enterprises Vita Chem. He is also being syringe fed frozen baby brine shrimp.

The three new rescues: 1) Khan- he is mostly struggling from very severe ammonia burns. He has a loss of scales and is not eating or swimming. The ammonia level was at 4.0 ppm. I am not too sure if he can recover from such severe ammonia burns. 2) Toast- he is suffering from stress and minor ammonia burns. The ammonia level was at 2.0 ppm. 3) Vulcan- suffering mostly from fin rot. The ammonia read at 1.0-2.0ppm.

I want to thank everyone for sticking with me these past few months and welcome any new followers. Now that classes and graduations are done for the year, I am getting back on track with my rescue. I have just rescued three bettas today and will post them later once I run a few tests to see what exactly I am working with.

How amazing! First day that this handsome boy has made it down to the bottom of the tank (and stayed down)! I expect him to be available for adoption by the end of the week.

I am so very sorry to tell everyone that poor Mr. Goofy passed away last night. I just got back from a week long vacation and had some pet sitters try and take care of him, but when I came back, he wasn’t looking too great and had a very swollen abdomen, so I preformed an emergency tank change and hoped that that might help him feel a little better. Later that evening, he passed away. I was devastated since he was doing so well and was such a tough and fiesty boy. I will miss my poor little trooper. 😭❤️

More new rescues! Just stopped into Petco and honestly, I have never been so disgusted with them. Only 2 of their 30 fish looked healthy-no joke. It looks like they just hired some new people who have absolutely no idea how to take care of the fish. I also saw 2 dead ones- so decayed that they had fungus growing on them. I couldn’t leave without at least rescuing one, so I rescued 2. The first one is a male white opal betta named Zero. He has pretty severe fin rot. The second one is a male rose petal betta named Moët who is another betta with swim bladder problems.

New rescue! This is Randal the handsome male double tail betta. He was an emergency rescue from a local PetSmart. They apparently were going to try and “treat” him and the manager said that they were not willing to selling him at all as of yesterday. Today, we were able to try again and this time I checked him out normally as if I would with a healthy betta and walked out without saying a word. Because of me not drawing attention to the situation the betta was in, I was successfully able to rescue him. He obviously has severe a severe swim bladder disorder probably caused either by a bacterial infection, temp, or gulping in too much air. I am hoping for the best for little Randal.

Waffle and Mr. Goofy hopes that everyone had a wonderful Christmas! Waffle is still improving, and once his fins are completely healed, he will be up for adoption. Mr Goofy is getting better by the day. The fungal growths are starting to disappear and new skin can start to be seen.

Found a fungus on Mr. Goofy called Saprolegnia spp. on his big wound after running more tests yesterday. A vet is prescribing some Nystatin ointment for him (works nicely on mucous membranes) which is effective in treating this type of fungal infection, along with other fungal infections.

New rescue: this is Mr. Goofy. He was a surrender today from a very concerned woman. She wanted to help him but she couldn’t tolerate another thing possibly dying under her roof after tragically losing her husband. This growths/wounds started out small before thanksgiving and have grown a lot larger since. The last slide is from a skin scrape I took from him and it appears to be pus. If anyone has any idea on the best course of action for him please let me know as I have never seen anything like this before. Right now I will be treating him with methylene blue and Kanaplex. On another note: Rider has tragically passed away very unexpectedly. He was doing wonderfully and eating very well. Despite all that, there must have been something else going on with him that I wasn’t catching.

New rescue! This is Rider. He is a male Delta tail betta. He is so far doing really well and I expect him to make a full recovery.

Waffle seems to be feeling a little better and isn’t floating sideways as much as he was when I rescued him, but Picasso unfortunately passed away. His poor eyes were so sunken into his head and he had lived in the horrible betta cup since early last May. He deserved so much better.

2 new bettas have joined the rescue. They are both pretty bad off. The first one (Waffle-doubletail male) is at least eating on his own. The second one (Picasso- halfmoon plakat) is unfortunately not eating at all. Hopefully they will both manage to push through though. 🙏

Good news! Glacier has found an amazing home. He was the most laid back betta I have owned and I am excited for him to start his new life.

New betta available for adoption: Pluto is a male Crowntail. He is partially blind and will require high quality flake food (such as Fluval or Omega One). Adoption fee is $25. Please look on the website for all the requirements for him and please email me for an adoption application.

Update on Pluto: He is getting better. His pop eye is still healing, but he is looking a little better everyday. He is still on a flake diet due to his eye site from the pop eye, but he has been able to eat from the tank instead of a separate container for a few weeks now.
