🐶 CUSHING’S DISEASE 🐶
Hey, Jay! Jay is one of my patients who is being treated for Cushing’s disease. This is a condition in which the body produces too much cortisol. Increased thirst, urination, and appetite are the most common signs of this disease. We usually treat Cushing’s disease with pills that inhibit production of cortisol. We love our senior pets at and see this condition frequently!

💉RABIES VACCINE💉 Jian came to see me today for his very first rabies vaccine! This vaccine is required for all dogs and cats by law in NYS. According to no dogs have tested positive for over 60 years, and the last human case of rabies in NYC was in 1947. Continuing to vaccinate is critical for keeping this horrible disease out of our city!

⚾️CRYPTORCHIDISM⚾️ Meet Zuko! He saw me yesterday for a puppy wellness visit. His left testicle has not descended into his sc***um, which is a common condition in dogs. This cryptorchid testicle is at increased risk of torsion and cancer if it is not removed, so it’s even more important for Zuko to be neutered than it is for a normal dog!

Beautiful sunny January walk/run this morning in the neighborhood with 🏃🏻‍♀️not taking running for granted these days with 🤰🏼 and 🥶 but today was perfect! Ready to take on the rest of the week at after a day of self care and 💪🏼

💉DAPP💉 is arguably the most important vaccine for your puppy! I recommend this vaccine every 2-4 weeks starting from age 6-8 weeks until age 16-20 weeks. They’re considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their final vaccine. This is when they can start exploring outside in areas trafficked by other dogs. Before this, they should be socialized in a clean indoor space around other dogs that are fully vaccinated. Chip is 9 weeks old, so got DAPP with me yesterday and will get it twice more before he hits the UES dog parks and sidewalks 🦮 welcome to the UES and Chip! ❤️

🥩ALLERGIES🌺 are one of the most common conditions we see at CVC! Java came to see me today because he has been super itchy at home. His left ear and the bottoms of his paws are very red. These are classic signs of allergies! He takes monthly flea prevention, so a flea allergy is unlikely. He seems to have food and environmental allergies which we are currently treating with a special diet (Hill’s Derm Complete) and medication (Cytopoint and Apoquel). .romeroo

🧀 Happy National Cheese Lover’s Day! I always try to use a high-value distraction like spray cheese when I’m giving an injection. Sometimes when we do this, the pet does not even react to the needle at all as they happily lick their special treat! 💉

Manny came to see me today for his annual Leptospira vaccine booster! “Lepto” is a bacterial disease that can occur from coming into contact with the urine of an infected animal, (usually a rat 🐀 if you’re in in NYC). Some people are hesitant to vaccinate their dogs for Lepto. These are the 2️⃣ most common reasons for hesitancy that clients tell me:
🦴 “My dog doesn’t drink out of puddles, so he isn’t exposed” 💉 Lepto can enter the body through the eyes nose, mouth, or an open wound. So, if your dog leaves your building, they will probably be exposed at some point.
🦴 “My breeder told me not to vaccinate for Lepto because my dog will probably have a reaction” 💉 Newer Lepto vaccines have a lower rate of vaccine reactions than those used in the past. According to AAHA, adverse reactions to leptospiral vaccines seem to be rare, with

Pickles did so well for her COHAT today! COHAT is our abbreviation for Complete Oral Health Assessment and Treatment. We do these procedures almost daily at , and they include teeth cleaning, polishing, intraoral radiographs, and any oral surgery or pain medication that a pet might need. Fortunately, Pickles had her COHAT done before her teeth became diseased enough to need oral surgery. The whole procedure took less than one hour, and she left with a big, white smile! 🦷🐾
