Starting a joint supplement before you notice signs of arthritis is the best time to help preserve joint health. But, did you know that not all joint supplements are created equal? Glucosamine and Chondroitin are only partially bio-available in the body, meaning that just because the levels in your supplement may be high, that doesn't mean the body can use it. Our hospital recommends Rejensa, as it has a special formula that makes these ingredients more usable by the body, giving improved results!

Great advice for keeping impaction colic away in this weather!

With limited turnout and additional forage to combat frigid temperatures, hydration is crucial to combat impaction colic through the next week. Below are some tricks we use at WFEH to encourage horses to drink.
πŸ’§ Provide access to loose salt. If you add salt to a grain ration or implement electrolyte paste/powders ensure your horse has access to PLENTY of fresh water.
πŸ’§ Studies have shown that horses prefer water at 45-65 degrees Fahrenheit. Stock tank heaters or heated water buckets are the best bet for keeping water thawed and available to your horse in freezing temps. Automatic waterers should not be taken for granted and need checked multiple times a day especially in freezing temps.
πŸ’§Any additives like pictured below are all to help encourage drinking but fresh clean water should be provided at all times.

Our doctors do not recommend feeding raw foods, primarily due to contamination and the potential for food borne illness. There are now two brands of raw foods that are found to be contaminated with Avian Influenza, causing illness in cats.

Your veterinarian is your most reliable source of nutrition information regarding your pet. If you have questions about which pet foods have the most science behind them, feel free to reach out to one of our medical team members for more information.

While we recommend keeping most dogs inside during the winter, we acknowledge that there are many dogs who live outside for various reasons, throughout all seasons.

Here are 6 tips for helping them to live comfortably as the temperatures drop. Remember that the colder the temps are, the more calories are expended to stay warm, so carefully watch your outdoor dog's weight to determine if feeding more is necessary.
