This is the same dog I've been working with. It's been a few weeks now and he's really coming along well.
At first he was aloof and didn't want my attention. He also had severe food aggression. His owner's hands and arms still bear the scars from it. Now though I'm able to take a high value food item (a hot dog) from him without so much as a growl or even baring of teeth.
So far he's happy to see me and loves getting attention. He has calmed down considerably and is much more at ease in his place in our family. We are almost ready to work on his kennel aggression. After that is worked out then we'll start obedience training.
Same dog as last week. Working on him associating hands by his food as a good thing. So far so good. No growling or fangs bared and definitely no bites.
This is what can happen with patience, time and consistency.
He has a long way to go yet but we're starting to see progress. I figure in another 1 or 1.5 week he'll be ready for obedience training ie. walking on a loose leash, coming to me on command, sitting on command etc.
This is after some intensive training over food aggression. What isn't seen is the dog attacking the glove multiple times and actually ripping the glove off the rod that it was attached to. I had to zip tie the glove back on and continue to work with him. He's tired now and is tolerating the glove but I still won't put my hands near him yet.
Nothing like an early morning wrestle to start the day off... at least till Buck got distracted by a neighbor mowing the lawn at 7 am.
This is Fitz on a walk. Note that he walks calmly on a lose leash and does not pull against me as I walk. This is because he had learned that I am the leader and he follows. When I first met him he believed otherwise and walking with him was a real chore.
All the larger dogs running together and playing in the rain. A "here" command brings them all to me except Axel and Buck are trying to continue playing. Loretta is being a good girl.
Here are Loretta and Buck wrestling. Loretta is already starting to obey her commands even though she is playing. Buck, happy to have a playmate, obviously didn't want to stop playing yet.
More of Lilo learning to behave off leash.
Lilo playing and displaying her recall obedience.
Lilo off leash for the first time.
Lilo learning to walk on a leash.
Lilo learning her recall.
Bruno at the park showing off his training. This was about a 50 yard recall - he was sniffing at something interesting in a tuft of grass and I called him back with just his name and one command.
This is Bruno after he's been with us for a couple of days for obedience training. His owners' complaints about his behavior were constant barking at people and dogs, unruliness and general disobedience along with being difficult to walk. So far he's making good progress and should continue at a good pace.
