A fun edit I made of me pinning 3 gorgeous butterflies from the genus Papilio
Here is a Timelapse of me pinning a praying mantis brought to me by a friend who raises them as a hobby. She was even more stunning up close !
Rehydration process
Here’s a little inside look into my process. After sitting in the rehydration chamber for 12-24 hours so that they’re softer for handling, I then inject the specimen with water and allow them to sit another day so that the water seeps into the wing veins. This allows them to become malleable again for posing. Here you see me inject a sunset moth, monarch butterfly, atlas moth, and oak tasar moth
Promethea moth
Another moth friend has emerged under my care ! 🥹 this is a male Promethea moth, they look drastically different from their female counterparts, with their black wings and beige edges. What a beauty !
Atticus atlas 😍
Check this out you guys ! This is an Atticus atlas moth, the largest moth in the WORLD !! I’m holding a male, which is actually smaller than the females 🤯 I bought a couple cocoons just for the experience of holding one of these gentle giants, and it did not disappoint
Pinning process featuring a cecropia moth. I am using glass slides to weigh down the wings and a pinning needle to manipulate the placement
Hyalophora cecropia, the Cecropia moth
Look at this magnificent cecropia moth that emerged from his cocoon today ! Wow, is he a showstopper ! It is such an honor to handle one of these living giants. I have a few more cocoons that haven’t emerged yet, maybe we’ll get lucky with a pretty lady moth ? 🥰
Also please excuse my messy table, this little lad escaped the net cage and I found him in my kitchen. Had to grab this video while he was being still but I had no time to prep an area 😅
