Remember your furry friends during this HOT Oklahoma summer! If at all possible, keep them inside during the hot afternoon and early evening. If this isn't a possibility and they must remain outdoor, make sure they have plenty of water and shade! Consider providing ice cubes or blocks, or shaded "kiddie" pools, as well. And remember, brachycephalic breeds are MUCH more likely to experience heat exhaustion/heat stroke!

...flea and tick season, that is! It's spring, which means the parasites are out in full force! Although we recommend year-round flea, tick, and heartworm protection for your pets, springtime in Oklahoma is a good reminder to protect your outdoor AND indoor pets from creepy-crawlies, and from all the nasty diseases they can spread. We are so sad to share that our beloved Esther is moving on from the Mannford Animal Clinic. Her last day with us will be Monday, September 25. She will be training as a practice manager in several Tulsa/Sand Springs veterinary locations! Esther has been with us for 20 years, and we will sure miss her, but we wish her all the best in her new journey! Be sure to stop by this week and wish her well!

...don't forget your pets! During these "dog days" of summer, it's important to remember our furry friends! Make sure outdoor pets have shade and cool water all day long, and consider bringing them inside during the hottest part of the day. Never leave a pet in a parked car!!! Remember to watch for signs of overheating: heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, excessive thirst, lethargy, fever, dizziness, lack of coordination, profuse salivation, vomiting, a deep red or purple tongue, seizure and unconsciousness.
