Looking for a loyal companion with a heart of gold? Rex is here to say hi and let you know all about the love and loyalty he brings to his people! This sweet and smart boy is ready to find his forever home, and he’s got so much to give.

Rex loves being close to his humans and enjoys hanging out with his canine friends. His foster mom says he’s incredibly smart, walks beautifully on a leash, and knows exactly how to make his people smile. Rex adores his family time, whether it’s snuggling inside, going on walks, spending time with his foster mom’s 11-year-old granddaughter, or a taking a trip to Tractor Supply.

He’s happiest when he’s with his humans, and yes, he knows all about “treats”—it’s one of his favorite words! Rex is already neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on monthly heartworm prevention.

Rex is looking for a family who can appreciate his gentle, obedient nature and love him back. So if you’re ready for a sweet, loyal, and devoted companion, Rex just might be the perfect fit!

Krissy is a 7-year-old GSD who came to us from the BARC animal shelter. We want to express our gratitude to a dedicated volunteer who advocated for her. Their post went viral, which brought her situation to our attention, and now she’s safe! ♥️

📣 Meet Indy, a True Survivor in Need of Love and Support 🐾

Indy was recently rescued from a cruelty case and is truly the sweetest, yet saddest soul. Thanks to Officer Matthew Foley of Manor PD, who worked tirelessly to advocate for her, she’s now safe. In her previous holding area, Indy was incredibly depressed and desperate, but now she has a chance at healing.

Earlier this week, Indy went to Mercy Veterinary Hospital, where they discovered a lot of fluid in her tummy, and she’s heartbreakingly thin. She has a follow-up appointment next week and will need ongoing care, support, and time to rebuild her strength.

Indy deserves all the love and support we can give her! 💙 Please consider donating to help cover her medical costs and provide her with the supportive care she needs to fully recover.

📣 Foster Plea for Jack! 🐾

Meet Jack, a sweet and spirited one-year-old German Shepherd with glowing amber eyes and an athletic build! He’s full of life, love, and ready to bring joy to his forever family—or, in the meantime, a foster home where he can truly blossom.

🌟 About Jack:
Jack’s got a huge heart and an even bigger capacity for cuddles! He’s housebroken, excellent on a leash, and would make a perfect companion for someone who loves daily walks and outdoor fun. He currently lives with a wonderful foster family, including young kids, another dog, and even a cat. Jack’s great with children, showing a gentle and loving side, especially towards the four-year-old and eight-year-old he lives with. While he’s still getting used to the cat, he’s eager to play with the resident dog (currently on bed rest, so playdates are on hold!).

💤 Though not a fan of crates, Jack is smart and adaptable. He’s become comfortable sleeping next to his foster caregiver, Ella, and is happiest around family. Since being separated from his sister, Jack longs for a home where he can build deep connections and feel part of a loving pack.

🐶 What Jack’s Looking For:
Jack would thrive in a family-friendly environment with children and other dogs. A home with people who are around often, enjoy walking, and have plenty of affection to share would be ideal. He’s ready to be a cherished family member, bringing warmth, laughter, and unforgettable moments to a home that’s ready to open their hearts to him.

Once a year this gentle giant and AGSDR alumni, Max, turns into a (not so scary) wolf for Halloween that steals his mom's cheese during their photo shoot. 🤫🐺🧺

Max was adopted back in the summer of 2020 from AGSDR and he has lived happily ever after. Thank you Stacey for sharing your pictures with us. 🐾

Make sure to tag us in all your alumni pup's costumes this year, we love to see them! Happy Halloween! 🎃

🚨FOSTER PLEA‼️

We urgently need foster homes for Jack and Jill!

JACK
🔵 Age: 1-2 years old
🔵 Unaltered (neuter will be scheduled when a foster home is confirmed)
🔵 Not doing well in the kennel—his condition is declining quickly and he urgently needs placement
🔵 Ideal foster: Someone who works from home and can help him with crate training

JILL
🟣 Age: 1-2 years old (likely Jack’s sibling)
🟣 Unaltered (scheduled for spay surgery soon)
🟣 Has a temporary foster for her spay recovery but will need a new foster by 11/3
🟣 Doing great in the kennel

Both Jack and Jill are dog-friendly, kid-friendly (played exceptionally well with a 4-year-old and an 8-year-old), and adult-friendly. They do have a tendency to chase cats.

We are crossing our paws, hoping someone can help!

Jack needs a foster home immediately, and Jill will need one by 11/3.

Meet some of our adoptable pups there as well from 11 AM - 3 PM as enjoy the activities for all ages, food & drink specials, good music, a doggie photo booth, vendors and more. 🥳

Two sweet German Shepherds were sadly abandoned in a suburban area. We’re hoping to step in and help, but we need your support!

If you can open your heart and home, even temporarily, we’re looking for two committed fosters to help us see through if they have owners, and if not, help us give these pups the second chance they deserve! 🐾❤️

Fellow German shepherd enthusiasts. This sweet boy was found as a STRAY in North East Austin. He's currently safe (not under our rescue) but the finder is looking for his owner.

This is was the finder has said about him:
"This impeccably groomed and friendly dapper gentleman, who clearly got an A+ in obedience school, has a heartbroken pet owner out there because it's obvious that he's well taken care of."

Does this gorgeous boy look familiar to anyone? Let's get him back to his owners. We know he is well missed.

🚨FOSTER PLEA‼️ Sonja – 3 year old female, 67 lbs., HW neg Not spayed yet but we will spay her. This is a SWEET girl. She’s been hanging out in the office with staff for a few days. She’s a little nervous here, and wants to stay right next to you. She’s been quiet and calm in her crate in the office. Guess what? Sandy recently went on her first group camping trip and she did so well! ✨ She was off-leash at the campsite and had excellent recall. 🏕️ She got to play nonstop with another dog in the group, hiked on some trails and went swimming in the lake. 🌟 Austin German Shepherd Rescue 16th Annual Holiday Gift Wrap was a huge success, thanks to our incredible community! 🙌 Here are some heartwarming stats: -$14,775 raised 🐾. - A festive 11-day event 🎄. - 79 amazing volunteers filled 166 volunteer shifts and dedicated 65 hours to wrapping 760 gifts 🎀 - 51 rolls of gift wrap paper and 18 tape rolls crafted holiday magic ✨. - 500 yards of ribbon and 600 bows added a special touch 💫 - We used a whopping 500 sheets of tissue paper to make every gift extra special 🎁 Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers for making this event possible! ✨Congratulations to our entire committee: Elizabeth Wrona, Alexandra gordon, Noemi Rodriguez, Allison Van Kessel, Jennifer Layne and Heather Douglas. 🙏 Extra thanks to Elizabeth and Alex for leading the committee your dedication made this event extraordinary!🌟.
