Unfortunately, 1 in 3 pets will go missing in their lifetime and only 1 in 10 are found (AAHA). July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month and serves as a reminder to put strategies in place to keep your pet safe. Here are some additional tips:

🐶 Train your pet to come to you on voice command
🦮 Keep pets on a leash in unfenced areas
🐾 Microchip your pet and keep your contact information updated
🐕‍ Get your pet a secure and updated ID tag

If your pet does go missing, file a lost animal report with your local police department, post on community social media pages (such as Facebook or Nextdoor), check neighbors’ yards or video doorbell footage, scout local parks, and call animal shelters in your area.

The answer is yes, right?

As pet owners, we always do our best to keep our pets safe, but animals tend to explore the world with their mouths and can accidentally ingest poisonous substances. Here are some of the top pet toxins from The ASPCA:

⚠️ Over the counter medications: Ibuprofen, naproxen, cold medications, and herbal supplements
⚠️ Human prescription medications: ADHD medication, antidepressants, and heart medication
⚠️ Veterinary products: Animal medications - especially ones with added flavor that could be mistaken for a treat
⚠️ Food: Xylitol (artificial sweetener), grapes, raisins, onions, chocolate, macadamia nuts, and garlic
⚠️ Household Items: Paint, glue, and cleaning products (even natural products)
⚠️ Rodenticides: Another toxin that could be mistaken for a treat - never leave rodenticides out where your pet can find them
⚠️ Insecticides: Ant bait, bug spray, and foggers
⚠️ Indoor & Outdoor Plants: Autumn crocus, azalea, lilies, sago palms, tulips - to name a few
⚠️ Garden Products: Fertilizers, herbicides, and soil enhancements

Be sure to take precautions around your home to ensure pet safety.

If you suspect your pet has ingested a toxic substance, don’t wait. EEVC is available 24/7 for emergency and critical care: 📲 631-369-4513
