Please welcome Logan to the beagle buddies! Logan was found as a stray and never claimed. He made himself right at home on the couch in his new foster home, though. Logan is 9 years old and we will tell you more about him very soon.

We just got an update on Mama Sunday of the Pups of the Week! 🥰 Now known as Sunny, her family says, “She is doing great! This is a photo of her in one of her 5 dogs beds (7 if you include the couches). She spends her days snuggling with us on the couch and trying to convince my husband to take her on another 2 mile walk around the block. They are now up to 2 walks a day, and Sunny is hoping to increase that to 3 this fall when the afternoons are cooler. This weekend she will be going on a road trip to Tennesse to see my husband's parents. She will get to take walks in another state, and smell all sorts of new animals! As you can see she is doing great and spoiled rotten. She is a terrific dog, and we are so fortunate to have adopted her!”

Please welcome Friday back to DFW Beagle Buddies!

Friday (now known as “Maverick”) is a 2-year-old beagle/boxer mix. He was part of the Pups of the Week Litter featured in June of 2022. Maverick came back to Beagle Buddies when his family could no longer give him the care he needed. He is an exuberant and affectionate dog with a lot of energy. He is slender and streamlined and does not look much like a beagle. You see him and think, “That’s not a beagle at all!” …but just wait until he gets surprised, then you hear that bay!

Maverick is very loving and loves to snuggle up next to you (or in your lap) on the couch. He has the best facial expressions. Maverick is currently working on manners as he doesn’t really understand personal space. His foster parents are working hard to teach him that jumping is only okay when invited to do so. He is extremely responsive to commands and to his name and he is crate trained. He doesn’t show any aggression to his foster family but is quite vocal and “talks” a lot. As you would expect in any boxer, he does use his paws a lot to communicate with you and to play.

Maverick is quite slow to warm up to new people so the potential adopter will need to be patient and understand this. Maverick would do well in a home with active adults who can see to his exercise needs. Due to his current proclivity for jumping, if children are present in the home, it would be best if they were older because he is quite tall when he jumps up on his hind legs and could knock over a smaller child. Maverick is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative.

Friday's back story: Mama Sunday came to DFW Beagle Buddies on June 24 when she and 4 one-week old puppies were found on the side of the road in Red Oak. With a high temperature of 103 that day, we were very concerned that the babies may not make it. Thankfully, mommy and all 4 babies got the all clear from the vet and settled in at their foster home. 6 days later, animal control reached out to us to let us know that there were two more babies! While the 2 additional babies were quite a bit smaller than the other group, all did well and got a clean bill of health from the vet!

Since they came over the course of a week, we namedthis group the Pups of the Week! Mama appeared to be full Beagle and the puppies appear to be Beagle/Boxer mixes. Their estimated birthday is June 17, 2022.

If you'd like to meet Friday aka Maverick, please apply at www.dfwbeaglebuddies.org/adopt!

Izzy Belle was adopted as part of a bonded pair with her sister Lulu in 2019. Her family let us know that they had to say goodbye to her recently. We are so glad she had 5 years with such a loving home. 🩷

"Our sweet and precious Izzy crossed the rainbow bridge on 7-26-24. She was a love of our lives and brought so much joy to our family. We will miss her stubbornness by demanding belly rubs before she did what she was asked, showing no shame in trying to steal food while we cooked (particularly flour tortillas) and her cuddling up to her humans any time of the day whether she was just hanging out or ready to call it a night. Our hearts are broken and we will love and carry her in our hearts always."

*foster found, thank you!*
Red is looking for a foster home! His current owner is struggling with dementia and is no longer able to care for him. Here's what his family has to say: "Red is a senior pup who enjoys exploring the yard and snoozing with his people. Red loves food and completes puzzle toys quickly. Red is learning basic commands/manners, like sitting and waiting for his food. Red is potty trained and if you love a good Beagle Bray - Red will not disappoint! 🙂" If you're in the DFW metroplex and can let Red stay with you for a while, please let us know!

We are thrilled to introduce The Tenacious Puppies Department! Mommy Taylor and her companion Travis (who we assume is Daddy) came to us from the Canton shelter on May 17th, and on May 24th five beautiful puppies were born. Cassandra, Bolter, Florida, Aimee, and Clara Bow will be ready to go to their new homes starting July 12 when they are 8 weeks old. The puppies are playful, hyper, friendly, and very cute! We believe they are purebred Beagles. In our experience, ideal puppy adoptive homes are patient, have time to provide training/exercise, have a canine playmate, have a fenced yard, and have no human kiddos under 6 years old. Our goal is always to find the right match between Beagle and family. Let us know if you have any questions about the process or about whether a puppy is the right fit for your family.

Some of you may remember the gal we posted a couple weeks ago who was in need of a foster home. She’s not the biggest fan of her cat foster sibling, so we are looking for a new foster (or foster-to-adopt) home for her. Now known as Dorothy, she is doing well and is a total sweetheart. She is around 6 years old, loves car rides, squeaker balls, toys, and people. She is good with other dogs! She needs to have a mass removed and to lose some weight. If you live in Dallas/Fort Worth and can give her a place to recover and find her forever home, please let us know!

DFW BB Alum Dude, (now Owen) recently crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. He was adopted in 2012 and was originally named because of his counter surfing hobby! We're so grateful he had 12 beautiful years with his forever family. What a handsome gentleman he turned into! His mom says, "He was a darling dog and we will miss him terribly. Thank you for giving me the chance to have such a wonderful friend and companion."

*Foster found, thank you!*

This 6 year old female is looking for a foster home so we can take her in, get a mass removed from her side, and find her a great new family! Her current family loves her but can no longer care for her. Here is their bio for her:

“She is a loving sweet dog. She has lived with my family of 4 and 2 cats for 3 years. She gets along with the cats but tries to play with them at times which the cats don't appreciate. She loves walks but just short ones. She is a very lazy dog that spends most of the day curled up on the couch or sniffing around the house. She is crate trained for when we leave the house but sleeps in our bedroom. She gets along well with other dogs. She is very easygoing and adapts well to change. She only barks to get let in when she is outside.”

If you’re in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and interested in fostering (or foster-to-adopt!) please let us know!

We were sorry to hear that two of our adopters lost their beagle buddies to cancer recently. Bo was adopted in 2021 as a senior and had a wonderful life with his pack of two humans and three canine siblings. As you can see by his picture, his motto was “life is ball” and he spent many happy hours chasing it. Peanut Butter aka Peanut was adopted in 2017 and had a family who would do anything for him and enjoyed his antics playing with his canine siblings. We are so sorry for the loss of your canine friends, but we are so grateful for the amazing homes you both provided to them. You will be in our thoughts.

Brody is a 9 yr old male Beagle. He is a well-mannered gentleman who loves his morning walks and smells everything along the way. He loves to eat and loves alerting his foster mom and dad when someone is at the door, like any good Beagle! He is house trained in his foster home and uses the doggie door with ease. Brody is not a fan of loud thunderstorms. He's not crazy about toys or balls, but would absolutely love to snuggle up with you for some Netflix binging. He's a low-maintenance guy who would be a good fit for a lower activity household. He is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, microchipped, and has had a recent dental cleaning. If you'd like to meet Brody, please apply at www.dfwbeaglebuddies.org/adopt!

Howdy, beagle lovers! My name is Billy and I have a lot to say. I was picked up as a stray in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana and cared for by animal services until I could catch a ride with a few awesome volunteers to Fort Worth and a foster home. While at the shelter, I got my vaccines, dewormed, neutered, and tested negative for heartworms, so I’m all ready to go to my new home.

I’m about 2 1/2 years old and my foster mom says I’m real handsome. I am very energetic - I spend a lot of time playing with my foster sisters and we are very rambunctious. And remember how I said I have a lot to say? I express that with my beagle bark, so I’m not really suitable for an apartment or condo living situation. I’ll need a backyard with room to run and play… and bark. Although I am not aggressive, I can be slightly protective of things I find - like your slippers. My foster mom has been working with me on understanding that I need to “drop it” when she says so. I haven’t quite figured it out, but I am super smart and respond very well to training. So I’ll need a home without young children, and one with someone willing to continue training with me. I was probably on the streets for a while, fending for myself, so I’m working on house manners. I have already potty trained myself to use the doggy door, and I picked up crate training in just a few days. And I just LOVE to snuggle up with my people and my foster sisters! I am very, very sweet.

Do I sound like the beagle you've been looking for? If so, apply at www.dfwbeaglebuddies.org/adopt!

✨️Things to ask your groomer!✨️

As I have mentioned before, the grooming industry is 🚫NOT🚫 regulated like the human cosmetology, barber, and esthetic industry.

What this means is that basically ANYONE can purchase tools from amazon, walmart, or wherever and call themselves a groomer and charge people for it...even though they have 0 training nor insurance.
There are NO formal licenses required for grooming!

There are, however, several accredited grooming schools and academys as well as apprenticeships that offer several week courses which include canine anatomy, in depth training of bathing and drying each different breeds coat, breed standard grooms, show grooms and much more.
Many of these require you to perfect bathing, conditioning and drying and have an understanding of canine anatomy before even touching sharp objects!

These are some of the major questions to ask when choosing a groomer!

❗️Don't just choose them because they are the cheapest!
❗️Don't just choose them because they have an immediate opening tomorrow.

You are handing over a living being 🐶 to someone who will be handling sharp objects around their faces, sanitary areas, etc.

You wouldn't let someone practice botox, waxing, or anything with sharp objects on yourself without a mentor present... So don't let a random person practice grooming on your dog without a mentor present!

Make sure your family's pet(s) is/are in safe, gentle and caring hands! 🫶

What are we thankful for? We are SO thankful for all of our wonderful supporters who enable us to do the work we do. We are thankful for our amazing fosters who open their hearts and homes for the beagles who are often scared, stinky, and in need of medical care. And finally, we are so thankful for beagles, who are the best snuggle buddies we could ask for!
Happy Thanksgiving!
