The baby wanted to play today and treated Bowman's ears like they were chew toys.

Bowman responded by swatting and hissing at him.

When people move out and leave their animals behind.

When people give up on their animals.

Guys, it is currently an epidemic. Especially with dogs. We have run out of room and are putting dogs in every room. Even the furnace room. Every single day, we are getting calls from people trying to rehome their dogs. It was a gift or an impulsive decision, or they're moving or they have children or their landlord says no, or they are allergic. Every day. Multiple calls.

A bigger shelter is not the answer.

A person who actually honors their commitment they made to an animal is the answer.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but it's sobering to see that some shelters have to go back to euthanasia...killing away a problem they didn't create.

We are no kill and we will remain no kill, but that means if you come to us with a dog in your arms and start to say, "I need to rehome my dog because (insert reason)," we simply can't help you. We are full full FULL with dogs who come to us from abandonment, abuse, and neglect situations.

We made a commitment to those animals to find them a better life, and that's what we will do.

This is Hobbes, a very old and very sweet and very scared and trembling dog who was left behind by his owner. This is the sad and sobering reality we have to deal with every day. πŸ’”

We, as human beings, MUST do better. 😭

Two days ago, we lost our tenacious little fighter, Ann. It was devastating.

Beyond devastating.

Some losses just hit harder...for whatever reason.

Losing her is also a powerful reminder of why we do the work we do...to fight and never give up. The animals who come in our care deserve nothing less than everything. Even when we don't get the results we want, we take some small comfort in knowing that we did everything we could. And yet it is still a hard pill to swallow.

If you have ever loved and lost, you know the feeling. And you know how lonely it can be. πŸ’”

Tonight we are honoring Ann and we welcome you to share pictures of those who you loved and lost. By sharing, we hope it gives you some small comfort to know YOU are not alone. 🫢

P.s. please do not comment on or ask specifics on what happened to our precious baby girl. If you follow our page, you already know. 😭

I am not accusing anyone of being fickle, but so many times we have people comment to say that they wish they could take more animals but they don't have room... Then we post animals like this, and people are like, "I will literally drive to another planet to adopt said animal." Crazy how that works.

Comments off because these babies are nowhere near being available for adoption and we will not be responding to any inquiries about them right now...but you can see our list of very available, very adorable adoptables, right here: www.adoptourstrays.com/ouranimals/adoptables

The life of a shelter dog. πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

This is Hank. 🀍

Hank came to us back in September after he was reported to be living in a backyard, emaciated and without appropriate shelter. Our humane agents visited the residence and confirmed what spectators had seen. A dog living on an overgrown lawn covered in garbage and not a bit of food in sight. Hank was starving and dehydrated.

Humane agents removed him and brought him back to the shelter. Since that time, Hank has been living in a cage. He's well fed and he gets walks and toys and treats, but honestly, the majority of his day is spent licking the cage door because he is stressed and cooped up and really just wants to be around people. He loves people. And he gives the best kisses.

We love when people tell us how great the work we do is, and it is a high compliment. But we will be the first to admit that we don't want any animal to languish in our shelter. In any shelter.

Are animals better off in our care than being abandoned or neglected at home? Absolutely.

But our organization is simply meant to be a pause, a "paws," from a rough life to the good life.

Hank has "done time" with us, and now he needs to find a family. He is so handsome and so sweet, and he would do fine with a submissive female dogs. No cats tho. He's laser focused.

To apply for Hank, and why wouldn't you, go to www.adoptourstrays.com/ouranimals/adoptables
