Richland Gives, Day 5:

Yesterday my brother (my OWN flesh and blood) asked me a great question: "What do you guys do when you have a fundraiser and it raises more money than you need?" Great question, right?

While I don't know of a single nonprofit who muses, "Wow. It's like we have TOO much money," I will admit that some fundraisers do better than others because we have the bestest of the best supporters.

So what do we do with all that extra money?
1. We stay open another day.
2. We help more animals.
3. We pay our hardworking staff and pay our water, electric, gas, etc bills ON TIME.
4. If we're lucky, we have a little bit left over to put in the bank for a time when donations are not so great.

THIS is Grace, a very sweet kitten who came in with a degloved jaw. Because of the generosity of our community, we are able to help kittens like Grace get much needed lifesaving surgery and get all fixed up so we can get her into a loving home.

Jovie's adoption was 100% HAPPY tears. This lil lady with the bad joints and unique gait snagged the BEST family.

We are happy and our hearts are full. Screaming CONGRATULATIONS!!! ♥️

Richland Gives, Day 4: A year in review, so far. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."

We've never really met a dog like Danish. He was living in a residence where squatters resided, so we don't really know how long or who had him. What we do know is that this dog existed exclusively on primal instincts. Survival instincts. No socialization or love or affection could pe*****te this guy.

He's been in our care for about a month, and we've gotten him neutered, and had his really rough looking eyes repaired (which explains the "mask"), but by far, our biggest challenge is socializing him. He is very, very, very sweet, but so scared and so confused and so untrusting by any shows of affection. "Only love can hurt like this." This dog has the ability to totally and completely break your heart. He does not understand how to "dog."

We will fix him. We will show him that not all humans are bad. This is what we do, and when you support us, you give us the staff and the time and the resources to help dogs just like this. It's a great cause. Like the BEST cause. Because...animals. 😭

Misty was so stressed out when she was returned to us a few months ago that we thought she needed to decompress, so we put her in our staff bathroom.

She was more than happy to treat it as her studio apartment and has occupied it happily since then. She was generous enough to let us still come in and use the restroom, but it was honestly her space.

Earlier this week, the most lovely woman came in to meet Misty and fell in love with her. Today she made it official and is taking the prettiest and sweetest girl home with her.

Misty found her happily ever after, and we got our bathroom back.

Oh, and MISTY FOUND HER HAPPILY EVER AFTER. Yes, we are screaming with excitement.

Congratulations to these two beautiful ladies and we hope you are very happy together. ❤️

GRAPHIC PHOTO WARNING.

Sorry folks, but this is real life.

Baby boy Gus had his surgery postponed because he is only 1.3 lbs. Anesthesia is very risky for kittens this size.

Thankfully, there is no pain in the affected eye and while it is likely very uncomfortable, the nerves are no longer attached.

We will hang on to this little guy until he is closer 2 pounds, and we'll keep you posted on his progress. 🙏
