2024 was a year of many firsts - most positive, and some which I hope are also lasts. In 2024 we added so many new faces to our lesson program (horse and human), saw so many first horse shows for our riders, so many first times in a new division, so many firsts qualifying for finals, and the first time we had to deal with severe colic.
It was a year fraught with worry over the health of our beloved Scotty and Phantom, and a year when the outpouring of support in many forms literally brought me to tears time and again.
It was a year of deep gratitude, knowing that with the love and support of others we were able to rehabilitate them and see them back to doing their jobs in full.
And it was a year that I got to spend more time with my family, thanks to our incredible dream team of .a.shupe & .
I’m ready to close the door on 2024, and welcome in 2025 (as I steadily wrap my head around 25 years since Y2K….😳), and all the good things to look forward to.

🍁🍽️🦃 Happy Thanksgiving🦃🍽️🍁

This year I feel a little extra grateful. We had a really tough year, when in the early spring, both Scotty and Phantom needed emergency colic surgery to save their lives. Now, 7 months later, they are back in the program, and happily teaching our riders again with all the patience and kindness as ever. None of this would have been possible without our tight knit faRmily, who stepped up to the plate big time, and the greater horse community- so many people I’ve never even met, who reached out and wanted to help, as well as the teams of vets at Ocean State and Tufts who did the things that needed to be done. I am so grateful. I’m overwhelmed at times with gratitude for the kindness we saw, as well as the health of the ponies now. It gives me hope that this little bubble of kindness can extend further, and that we as humans can be more kind and more compassionate to one another.
I am so grateful that I’ve gotten to spend more time with my family this year, and in doing so, we’ve made some pretty special memories together.
And none of this would have been possible without our dream team of .a.shupe, , and . You are incredible and I’m lucky (massive understatement) to have you 💜.
I am so grateful for every family that comes through our doors - you make us who we are. Thank you!!

Our day wouldn’t be complete without our Awesome Adults!! Shoutout to these wonderful women who bring so much joy and laughter to our barn faRmily. As a mom, it always makes me happy when Moms take time for themselves, to do something that is meaningful to them. Great job!!

We did a fun little experiment that beautifully demonstrates what happens to the horse’s tempo and expression when the rider pinches at the knee. @molly_c1219 had Burt chugging along in such a lovely trot with her knees soft and following. When she pinched at the knees, Burt immediately stopped or slowed down and his expression changed dramatically from happy to annoyed. We repeated it several times to really understand the effect of this position change. There was never any doubt that saving this pony was the right thing to do. It took a huge village to make it happen, and for that I am forever grateful. When I watch him go round and round with 5 year old Little Miss E, reins flapping in the breeze, with his happy face on, it makes my heart burst from happiness. He’s one in a million, and we are so lucky every day that he’s still here, teaching the next generation of riders to do things the right way 💜🦄💜
