I will likely never give up on enrichment feeding.
Look at all the boxes it's checking! Physical activity, sniffing, mental stimulation, and FUN!
All of these things help develop resilience and build confidence!
It can also help with keeping those senior dog's minds sharp!
So, when you ask me one thing you can do for your dog if you don't do anything else? Give them some enrichment at least once a day!

Our Morning today with 3 higher energy dogs
-Wake up
-Potty break
-Breakfast: All dogs were fed separately. Puppy was fed half breakfast with training, then the rest out of her slow feeder bowl. Older dogs were fed in slow feeder bowls.
-Small break to let stomachs settle to prevent bloat
-Outside play time: Frisbee for 2 dogs, sniffing and chase for the other dog
Rest time: Puppy in crate, older dogs were able to settle in separate areas on their own
This is not an absolute. My recommendation is some kind of structure in your day. It doesn't have to be the same every day. My biggest recommendation is to work REST into your dog's day.

Teaching proper greetings is important on both sides of the greeting. Both dog and human need to learn proper interactions to be safe and build relationships.
Han is a young excited puppy learning how to calmly interact with a child. The child is also learning how to properly approach with adult supervision and guidance.
We set up these interactions in controlled environments to practice real life scenarios. The more we practice success, the more success will start happening automatically in real life. This is why group dog classes can be beneficial.

Some fun you could be having at a drop in class!
As a trainer I strive to show my clients real life situations. I practice them with my own dog.
Will every dog run into children playing with a remote control monster truck in a park, no. But if your dog is used to this level of chaos they should be able to handle many other scenarios.
Notice I put my hand in the treat bag when Qwerty is not paying attention. I stop movement the moment I notice he is going to try and put tension on the leash. I change directions to try to keep his focus on me. I reward him for coming back into position, I try not to lure him into position by my side.
Prior to this I did have to teach him what position I wanted him in with heavily rewarding any time he was by my side, then adding movement.

Tilly has been working with me for the past year and a half. She and her owner started in Puppy Kindergarten and progressed all the way through Focused Manners. Then for the past few months we have been doing some private training to polish off some things.
Tilly came a very sweet, but impulsive puppy who didn't know much about personal space. This morning she was able to hold a down stay while Qwerty chased a frisbee right in front on her!
So proud of this duo! They have worked hard and it shows! 👏👏 This is why I do this!

This is my very active son, he (under my explicit supervision) wanted to train the dog in his own way. I sat back and monitored, but ultimately let them figure it out. My dog is 6 years old and I have complete verbal "control" over him. My son knows dog body language enough to know when to back off.
Sometimes training doesn't look like training. But having my kids get involved and try things makes their relationship with the dog better. I step in before I see any signs of things going poorly, but this was a good 20 minutes and both parties were enjoying the activity.

I see myself as so much more than a "dog trainer" in fact I really do think we should change the term.
I am more of a relationship coach than anything.
One of my favorite aspects of my job is finding creative ways to communicate with your dog. When I see a dog and their owner "click" it's amazing to me and gives me such a warm, fuzzy, feeling.
So here's my message to you, I believe in you! I believe in your relationship with your dog! I believe that you can have a happy life with them!
As your dog trainer consider me one of your biggest cheerleaders! And I will do it over and over again because dogs having a wonderful life with their people is my passion!
