Happy 1 month with ILEHC Toffee (JC: Catfeinated). He celebrated with some spring grass, cookies and a special visit from a fan and supporter, Patti 🩷

Patti was sure to feed his human caretakers with adorable Easter cookies too, thank you 🌸

It’s been a busy first month for Toffee, with his initial vet new intake exam, teeth floated, feet trimmed and the beginnings of the rehabilitation therapy’s to help gain weight/condition and increase circulation/decrease inflammation in the leg affected by residual swelling from chronic cellulitis.

Happy 29th birthday to our incredible Boomer💙! He hides his age (and the fact he’s a Swedish Warmblood not an OTTB like the rest of our ILEHC herd) very well🐎! He lights up every morning and night with his mash slurping and it’s impossible not to smile when he greets you. From all the ILEHC humans and your best bud, Ash, we love you Booms💙

Dora (Jockey Club: Dreamadora) and Katelyn ready for a training session. We have recently introduced pole work to her sessions to help build on her balance, strength and rhythm. Most importantly, it keeps training time fun for Dora, she loves to show off her smart and fancy moves 🌟

🛍️ Spring Shopping for a cause 🛍️

This weekend, Sat 4/12 ~ 11am-3pm

We have lots of new and lightly used items in our Tack Shop. Amazing deals and 100% of funds raised go to the care of the rescue horses!

We have a huge clearance sale on English and Western saddles along with the season essentials, show coats and fly wear !

🐣We also have some super cool Easter Raffle Baskets for kids, adults and horses, coffee, cookies and our incredible rescue horses ready to greet everyone and show off some shenanigans in their paddocks/pastures ❤️🐎

Dora (JC: Dreamadora), a few weeks after Dora arrived at ILEHC in Feb 2024 vs. March 2025.

Dora is one smart and incredibly kind mare, searching for her perfect person. Dora has been restarted undersaddle — focusing on relaxing, exercises building up strength, balance and straightness along with some fun pole work.

💙 New Intake 💙

JC registered name: Catfeinated
ILEHC Barn name: Toffee

Catfeinated (IL), 18 year old, Thoroughbred Gelding.

Catfeinated is a War Horse, he raced over 90 times over a 10 year period, retiring at age 12.
He passed through a few hands over the course of his career but his whereabouts over the past 6 years of his retirement is unknown. He was identified by his tattoo in a Texas Feedlot, emaciated with a swollen leg (diagnosed by his quarantine veterinarian as chronic cellulitis).

A team of non for profit organizations (RACE Fund, Inc., Galloping Out, After the Finish Line), individuals (Jan Ely, Jackie King, Beth, Michele and her team at HSC) along with a prior racing connection stepped in to get him out of the lot, into quarantine, safety and at the receiving end of medical care needed to set him on the road for recovery.

During this process ILEHC was asked if we could offer him the safe landing, rehabilitation care and home he deserves once his quarantine period was complete.

After a month of dedicated care, vet visits and plenty of groceries with his quarantine mom, Toffee arrived safely with us last Tuesday. During his new intake exam, our ILEHC Veterinarian scored him a little over a 2 on the henneke scoring system (score of 1 severely emaciated > 9 extremely fat) indicating he is still very thin and has a long way to go. We are working on a rehabilitation plan with our vet to best manage his chronic cellulitis, get him back to peak condition and give him the peaceful retirement and loving home he deserves.

Thank You to our incredible partners, supporters and donors for making it possible to take on horses like Toffee. Every horse who enters our program lives under the wings of ILEHC for life; those suitable for adoption, who meet their match often go onto wonderful forever homes, but some stay with us in sanctuary. Toffee (Catfeinated) is part of the ILEHC herd and family now. He’s already soaking up all the love and dedicated care from his ILEHC family.
