🐴🔥 Tips for keeping horses cool and healthy during heatwaves

💦 easy access to clean, fresh water 24/7

🌳🏡 access to shade, shelter and a fan during heat of the day.

🐎 consider turnout during eve hours if suitable for horses

🧂add electroyles to encourage drinking, replace salts lost during sweating

❌ no sudden dietary changes, keep feed and hay consistent

🦟🪰 Keep Bugs at bay with fly spray, fans, horse fly wear, traps. Pick stalls and shelters off p**p regularly.

💦 hose down horses to keep them cool - hose until cool to touch

🧐 keep an eye on horses vitals, especially our more vulnerable horses, Senior in age or with health conditions that make regulating body temperature harder.

🧊🥵and the toughest one for horse people….Practice self care for the human - stay out of the sun, drink plenty and keep a check on how you’re feeling 🩷

The sun has been shining down on Toffee (JC: Catfeinated), 2 months into rehab at ILEHC following his quarantine at Highland Saddle Club.

We are continuing to focus on therapies to increase circulation to his leg with chronic cellulitis. It certainly doesn’t hold him back from showing off all his gaits in the pasture and moves with ease and soundness.

He is an absolute gentleman to handle and loves all the attention 🤎
