PUPPY INVESTMENT:
Getting a puppy is not just a fleeting decision—it’s an investment. When you bring a puppy into your life, you’ve promised to care for, nurture, and guide this new life. That includes one of the most crucial aspects of care: training.
Starting training early, ideally between 8 and 12 weeks, sets the foundation for a lifetime of success. This critical period is when your puppy is most impressionable, eager to learn, and able to soak up the structure and guidance you provide. But let’s be real—it’s not always easy.
There will be moments when you want to cry when frustration makes you question your decision, and when you wonder, "Did I make the right choice?" Those feelings are normal. Raising a puppy is a rollercoaster, full of ups and downs. But here’s the truth: you owe it to yourself and your puppy to keep going. If you need to take a break, take it. But don’t ever give up.
Consistency is key. Be calm, fair, and clear about the rules, boundaries, and expectations you set. Invest in proper training techniques that focus on understanding and communication, and enjoy the journey of raising your puppy. Every effort you put in now—through calm leadership, positive reinforcement, and patience—will pay you dividends in the future.
A well-trained dog isn’t just a joy to live with; it’s a reflection of the time, care, and love you’ve invested. Remember, you chose to take on this life, and your puppy is depending on you. Stay committed, stay focused, and enjoy watching your pup grow into a well-mannered, confident companion.
Start strong. Stay steady. The future you and your dog deserve begins to

SERVICE DOG SUCCESS: ( We have express permission from owner to share the following post)
Meet Lottie: The 1-Year-Old Life-Saving Superstar!
At just one-year-old, Lottie, a beautiful yellow Labrador, is proving what an incredible asset a well-trained diabetic alert and response dog can be. Trained here at Maligator Kennels, Lottie works alongside her handler, Jenn Days, keeping her safe and healthy daily.
Lottie has been trained to detect dangerous blood sugar levels using her extraordinary sense of smell. She alerts Jenn when her blood sugar rises above 150 or drops below 75. Her alert routine is precise and life-saving:
1️⃣ She sniffs the air to confirm the chemical change.
2️⃣ Touches Jenn’s hand with her nose to get her attention.
3️⃣ Climbs into Jenn’s lap and gently licks her face until Jenn responds. (Watch the video below. It's really cool)
Despite still being in training, Lottie has already saved Jenn’s life more than once. One morning, while both were asleep, Lottie woke Jenn as her blood sugar plummeted—hitting the dangerously low 40s. Her pump and electronic monitoring devices failed to sound an alert, but Lottie’s incredible instincts didn’t miss a beat. Thanks to Lottie, Jenn was able to treat the drop before it became life-threatening.
And it doesn’t stop there! Just the other day, Jenn was driving when Lottie climbed into the front seat, laid her head on Jenn’s shoulder, and started licking her face. Jenn stopped to check her blood sugar—it was in the 60s. Once again, Lottie was on top of her game, ensuring Jenn could take action before her condition worsened.
Why Lottie Was Born for This Work
Lottie wasn’t just any puppy—she was specifically selected for this life-saving role. At just 6 weeks old, I, Russ, traveled to Idaho to evaluate an entire litter for the perfect candidate. Over two days of testing, I assessed each puppy’s temperament, focus, and innate abilities to determine which would
Remember size doesn’t matter; but training sure does
DOES SIZE REALLY MATTER?:
I can’t believe your mind went there. Get your mind out of the gutter. This is a family page 🤣. This is about dogs LOL.
Let’s settle this once and for all: when it comes to dog behavior, size does not matter. I know, I know—your little fluffy Pomeranian might look like an innocent ball of fur, but if that little ball of fur has an attitude and a bite to match, we’ve got a situation on our hands.
Now, I get it. It’s easy to overlook a 10-pound dog snapping at your heels. Maybe it’s even a little funny the first time your chihuahua acts like it’s ready to throw down with a Great Dane. But here’s the thing: a dog bite is a dog bite. Whether it’s coming from a 5-pound Yorkie or a 100-pound Rottweiler, it still hurts—and trust me, your neighbor isn’t laughing when little “Fifi” takes a nip at their ankle.
At Maligator Kennels, we see it all. Big dogs, small dogs, and everything in between, but the one thing we never see? A difference in how aggression should be treated. Just because your dog fits in your purse doesn’t mean it gets a free pass on bad behavior. A nip from a small dog might not send you to the ER, but I bet it still makes you think twice about going in for a belly rub next time, right?
And guess what—your neighbor, the mailman, and even the law don’t care about your dog’s size either. To them, a bite is a bite, and if your dog is doing it, there are consequences. No one wants to be “that guy” who explains to the police that their dog is “just a little guy.” Trust me, I’ve seen it play out, and it’s not the cutest look.
So what do we do about it? Well, that’s where the fun part comes in. We train! And no, I’m not talking about turning your little terrier into a K9 officer—though that would be impressive—I’m talking about giving your dog the same structure and boundaries you would for any dog, no matter the size. At Maligator Kennels, we don’t judge. We’ve seen the

STOP FIGHTING & START WINNING:
You heard me; stop it. These days, you have a choice to make. It's not a hard choice. It's not complicated to find the right answer. But it is life-changing, and life-changing in a good way.
You can either keep fighting your dog, chasing them around the house, down the street, yelling and cursing their name, or you can start winning. You can either spend money fixing your house, the holes in the wall, the torn-apart furniture, and the medical bills because your dog bit the neighbor kid, or you can spend your money on dog training and make that previous life something from your past.
So which is it? Have you ever really taken the time to sit down with yourself, in the quiet of your home, at the park, or somewhere else, and asked yourself honestly, "How much time and energy am I spending on this furry thing that lives in my house?" If you haven't, I encourage you to do so. When you do, if your dog is untrained, it should make you mad. It really should, because the amount of time you're spending is double, if not triple, the amount of time you'd spend training them, and then never worrying about it again.
"But my dog is different. My dog's breed and temperament cannot be obedient." I'll be the one to say it since Google and your best friend won't: B.S. I've been dog training for 13 years, and along the way, I've met some of the most pig-headed, stubborn, out-of-control, poorly bred, healthy nightmarish dogs ever conceived by heaven, and I've NEVER, not once, met a dog who couldn't be trained in obedience and house manners.
You have to decide, and only you can do it. Do you want to keep fighting a losing battle, with no rest or relief or joy at the end? Or do you want to win and start enjoying your life with your dog? It really is that simple.
Dog ownership was and is never supposed to be one of competition; it's meant to be a fulfilling partnership. When your dog is untrained, out of control, ignorant, or anything in between, you ar
