A Canine Experience

Meet Oscar, a young German Shorthaired Pointer. This breed is known for endless energy and a certain intensity and Oscar did not disappoint. He is big, bouncy, athletic, and confident.
Oscar did everything I asked of him on our solo hike, easily and happily. He will need another dog to run with to really stretch his legs, so we will start slowly integrating him with some camp counselor dogs who also love to run.
Kudos to his owner for recognizing and meeting the high exercise needs of his breed.

Welcome COOPER: a sweet, mixed breed tripawd boy. I was a little hesitant when his parents first contacted me - I was worried hiking would be too much for him, so I inquired about any signs of pain or osteoarthritis. His awesome dad takes him on regular hikes, though, so he is well conditioned and accustomed to the trails. He already has nice trail manners and recall, and he handled a solo one hour hike really well. He will be paired with camp counselor dogs who will leave him alone so he doesn’t get jostled.

Welcome Cupcake and Charlie to A Canine Experience!

🐶 Cupcake is looking forward to gaining confidence and success on her weight loss journey. She has already made great strides in being brave enough to enter the woods and being physically close to large, camp counselor dogs. We are working on recall and check ins. She will be a trail dog in no time.

🐶 Charlie is Cupcake's puppy little sister. Charlie is happy and confident and loves exploring and sniffing during her hiking adventures. She's learning to climb up and down rocks and tree limbs. She's still in the puppy stage where recall is a natural behavior, so we are reinforcing that heavily while keeping her outings short and positive. We are also introducing her to lots of different types and sizes of puppy-safe camp counselor dogs.

While we don't have time to take a group out this weekend, we hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful fall weather and we encourage all of our followers to get outside and enjoy the fall colors and sunshine with your dogs!

I do my best to return a clean and dry dog to you after a camp session, but have noticed that many dogs would also benefit from a full brush down and/or deshedding.

JUNE

June is a new addition to A Canine Experience. She’s a pretty little red Golden Retriever; she has natural retriever recall and absolutely loves the water. She’s a strong swimmer, and being in the water is a great confidence builder for her - she started out a little unsure about this whole hiking with strangers thing, but once she got in the river, she completely relaxed and took the lead in retrieving, easily beating out the Lab boys.

WELCOME ZIGGY & GUSTO 

Ziggy and Gusto are old yellow Lab friends from back in their puppy days. They came to A Canine Experience at the same time, and usually get out in the same group. They both are on a weight loss journey, so we are taking it slow, allowing lots of water breaks, and making sure they have opportunities to cool down in the river and shade when it’s hot. These guys live for the water. They are determined to build up their endurance this fall and make it to Camp Counselor status by the end of the year - I believe they can do it!
