Happy October Copper Starr Family!

I know we haven’t posted in a LONG time, so for that I wanted to say I’m sorry, totally my fault, just been busy with life and in full disclosure we’ve slowed things WAY down here at the rescue.

We still have the sweetest old man Harry but he is our only rescue at this time. We have been asked to intake a few horses but unfortunately we’re just not in a financial position to do that at this time. We can’t in good conscience take in an animal and not have the funds for vetting, farrier, supplements, training or specialty feed.

This doesn’t mean we won’t EVER take on another horse but we pride ourselves on not being a “churn and burn” type rescue (we believe there’s a thin line between quick rescues and flippers), horses usually need a significant amount of time to decompress after a move/trauma/abuse etc.

I havent posted much because I struggle with asking for help/donations. I don’t know why it just feels grimy asking for donations when I know full well we are ALL struggling with this economy.

So just wanted to let you all know we’re still here , still chuggin along and Harry is doing amazing!

I am so proud of how far this guy has come! He’s still face shy but he’s getting better, he rides (the teenager here rides him sometimes) physically he has come leaps and bounds!

Next month will be a year he has been with us! (Also it will be Copper Starr Equine’s 1 year anniversary! We have learned SO much in this 1 year, some lessons were sad, some were frustrating but most were great!)

GUESS WHAT!? Freya and Ember (now Faith & Hope) have been ADOPTED! and even better news they have been adopted TOGETHER! and even better than that they’ve been adopted by a neighbor so we still get to see them and watch them flourish! I am so excited to see all the amazing things they do! So excited for Bryanna and family, I just know they are in the perfect home!

Do any of our friends know of any OTTB specific rescues? We have a line on a mare needing rescue and we don’t have the space or resources for her, she needs someone with thoroughbred knowledge

We have names for mama and baby!!!

Mom’s new name is Freya and babies name is now Ember!

Thank you everyone for being on this journey with us! We had the vet & farrier out for them today! Mom and baby are perfect! Mom will need to be sedated again for her next trim but we’re thinking with consistent work she will be able to get trims without sedation later on down the road!

Also can we talk about how HUGE Ember is compared to her mom? She will be 1 MONTH old on the 23rd!!

Who wants to name a horse!?! Make a donation and you get your name in the bucket! We will draw 2 names (1st draw gets first pick and 2nd draw gets to name the other)

We’re holding a raffle for naming mama and baby! All funds collected will help us get mom & baby seen by a vet and feet done!

Mama is a red mare with small strip of white on her face and a snip of white on her nose, she’s cautious but curious! I feel like she really WANTS to love but she’s scared.

Baby is a little red dun filly with no white on her face but one white back foot and a white spot on the other back foot. Baby is all things a little filly should be, she’s sweet, fun and full of curiosity.

✨ BIG NEWS ✨

We’ve been keeping a secret this weekend! Our baby is finally here! She’s a perfect lil red dun filly! Lil girl was born in the early morning hours of 2/23.

Mama and baby are doing great! Were thinking of doing a raffle to pick names for both mom and baby!? (thoughts?)

We need to get mama and baby into the vet for a check up & we are in dire need of donations to make that happen!

✨RAFFLE TIME ✨ *RAFFLE IS CLOSED*

We are anxiously awaiting Miss Red to have her baby so we can get them both checked out by the vet! She will need to be sedated for her exam which is why we are waiting till after she has her baby. Mama will need her feet and teeth done while sedated, plus shots and exams for both mama and baby!

We will be raffling off a matching set rough out headstall, reins and breast collar, $15 per ticket! If you want in on the raffle please tell us what number you want!

Good Morning Copper Starr Equine!

It was a brisk 27° out this morning at breakfast time! Did you know the best way to keep your horse/pony warm is with food! Keeping the gut moving is a great way to keep your horse warm!

There is no need to blanket your horses in the Southern Arizona winter (unless our horse is elderly, sick or didn’t grow a winter coat for some health reason)

Horses (and other furry animals) naturally fluff up their hair to keep an air pocket between their body and the elements, a blanket not only flattens the hair (disrupting insulation) but can cause the horse to sweat and in turn freeze (wet + cold aren’t a good combo)

✨ We are needing help cleaning, brushing, training and just spending time with the horses, if anyone would like to volunteer or donate please reach out! (4-H & FFA kids we will sign off on volunteer hours!) ✨

Today the rescue took in a sweet LITTLE red mare who also happens to be big as a house with what we suspect is a BABY BELLY!

She’s nervous in her new surroundings but who wouldn’t be with all the change and a potential baby on the way?

She seems very young to be having a baby but she’s also too far along to abort so we’re going to need all your good vibes that the rest of this goes smoothly!

The shed is finally in its spot and on the ground! We moved the feed into the enclosed area! Now just need to move the hay into the hay storage!
