Something I hear from people often is "They know this (sit, stay, come, ect) at home!"
Of course, most dogs do! Why?
1) Our dogs spend most of their lives at home, it's the place they are most comfortable with.
2) It's probably the only place you trained with them.
I make it a habit to take my pups to the park and new dog friendly places as much as I can!
Now when my pups and I are out we don't just run wild, we practice and work on training and behaviors in these places. Why? because these are great desence and socialization opportunities.
We work on behaviors like calmness, sit, down, and how to react to other things like people, dogs, cars, kids, etc. For my pups this has become second nature for them, But it takes practice. The key when going new places with you pup is to not get frustrated and just give up!
Start you pup with baby steps, Just by going to a new park for a walk and letting them see new things is a great first step!
