🎉 Harlow is getting released!!! Her story has touched so many in the past 7 months with her incredible transformation and we’re so thrilled to share, she’s cleared to go back to her ocean home! Harlow will be released this Saturday, December 21st at 8:45am on Sombrero Beach in Marathon, FL! The release is public, so if you’ve been following her story you can come join us in sending her off! ❤️🐢

Twenty critically endangered Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles arrived in the subtropical Florida Keys Thursday to warm up and receive treatment after suffering “cold stunning” in the waters off New England. 🐢

Found stranded as a result of the condition, the precious turtles were rescued and subsequently flown to Florida Keys Marathon International Airport, arriving Thursday afternoon in banana boxes, sometimes 2 to a box from a temporary holding center at the New England Aquarium. 🌎
 
Anything below 50 degrees Fahrenheit can become a mortality event for a sea turtle. ❄️

It’s a massive effort combined with many organizations that rescue these turtles right at the site. There’s an incredible organization, ‘Turtles Fly Too,’ where volunteer pilots fly these turtles down to warmer places. The pilots donate their aircraft, fuel, and time. 🛩️
 
“Turtles Fly Too” dedicated Thursday’s rescue mission to the legacy of Bonnie Freeman — lost to acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 12 — and her family, who founded Stop Children’s Cancer together after Bonnie’s diagnosis. One of the turtles was named Bonnie in memory of Bonnie Freeman. ❤️

The cold-stunned turtles that are critically ill will be tested to discover whether they have pneumonia, infections, or other ailments, with their treatment and rehabilitation period determined by test results. 🏥
 
We are using nebulizing medications to treat the turtles with pneumonia and applying silver honey for the ones who need wound care. All 20 of the new patients passed their in-water swim tests! ❤️‍🩹

Over 100 sea turtle experts and veterinarians from as far away as Curaçao attended the Annual Florida Keys Sea Turtle Workshop to learn and share information about sea turtle medicine, rehabilitation, and research. The Turtle Hospital has been hosting this informative workshop for over 30 years. 🌎🐢
