Harlow Update!! She came out for an exam with Dr Terry yesterday. 👨‍⚕️🐢

Harlow is still maintaining her weight around 142lbs or 64.6 kg. She needs to gain weight before she will be considered for release. Her bloodwork, on the other hand, is looking great! We will continue to entice her to eat more, by offering her some of her favorite treats like fresh lobster tail. 🦞❤️‍🩹

Thank you, everyone, for your continued support and our team for working around the clock to help our sea turtles! ❤️🌊

Blood transfusion for Packer yesterday. 🩸🐢

Montel, one of our non-releasable resident Green sea turtles, was the blood donor! A sea turtle superhero saving other turtles’ lives! 💕

Here we are, performing a crossmatch in our lab to ensure the blood is compatible with Packer’s before starting the transfusion. 🏥

In the end, the blood transfusion was a success! Packer is still in critical condition, recovering from her eye surgery, but the best news is she ate for the first time this morning! 🍽️❤️‍🩹

Buckle up, it’s Bat Week!
Time to demystify these marvelous mammals & debunk a few myths:
🦇 𝗠𝗬𝗧𝗛: Bats are blind – false! FACT: Bats are adapted to see in dim light. They also use sound waves (echolocation) to help navigate and find food.

🦇 𝗠𝗬𝗧𝗛: All bats drink blood – false! FACT: Out of over 1,400 species of bats in the world, only 3 species (vampire bats, aptly named) lap up blood for their meals. Other bats are solely insectivores, feasting on winged insects (like our 13 fabulous Florida resident bat species) or strictly feed on nectar and fruit (rise up, pollinators!). A few other rare species in the world will eat frogs, crustaceans, or even small fish!

🦇 𝗠𝗬𝗧𝗛: Bats will attack and fly into your hair — false! FACT: Bats generally try to avoid people. If in a small space (like a cave) with a bunch of bats, they may fly close while trying to flee but have zero interest in hanging out in your hair. Best practice is to always give bats plenty of space (for you and for them).

“Packer” made a trip to Pinecrest Veterinary Hospital yesterday where Dr. Karpinski worked her magic! 🚑🏥

He’s a juvenile Green sea turtle who was rescued about a week ago, entangled in fishing line with heavy fibropapillomatosis tumors covering both his eyes. 🐢

Packer needs prayers and healing energies as he recovers from surgery and starts chemotherapy eye drops. 🙏❤️‍🩹

Please wish him the very best as he faces a long journey of rehabilitation ahead. 🙏❤️‍🩹
