Late post.
Oh well.

🌧️ 🌧️ 🌧️ 🌧️ ☔️ ☔️ ☔️ ☔️

We had an absolutely lovely day at El Gezira Riding Academy! Thank you to Ms. Pam, Cleo Bagwell, and all the wonderful helpers and riders at EGRA for contributing to a great show.
So TJ all do the rain coming in, the AHJA portion of the show was canceled (but not until after we’d driven there 😵‍💫), so we decided to stay and continue on with the schooling classes. All three of my minions did excellent jobs. Each of them was working with not only a parter that has their own mind and ideas about things, but against some other odds as well. Each girl conquered different goals today, and I am so very proud.
Arrianna attended camp at EGRA for the week, and she was able to show off her drill team riding skills! She received many camp awards, and she also left the show with sweet Remi having earned a first place, second place, third place, and fourth place! Way to go Remi and Arri!
McKenna and Deklin worked through some kinks in their first classes, only to come out so much stronger at the end and conquer their first ever jumper class together! Deklin handled it all like a champ and secured a 4th place out of roughly 9 (?) in that class! I’m so excited to see where they will go!
Chandler and Pi are learning each other, and I know that each and every ride with pi is a lesson for Chandler. They did a great job in all of their classes today! They left with three 2nd placed, one 3rd place, one 4th place, and one 5th place.
There is more work ahead of us… for everyone…but I know the crew will rise to the challenge.

Thank you Stephani Paramore and Sydney for coming out to cheer us on, and to Baylor Cobb for coming to see us as well! I am so grateful to have you guys in our corner, and we so appreciate your support!
Thanks to the parents of these fine young ladies! Cody Black Odom and Chris Odom, Haylee Vermilyerqnd Bruce, Bridgitte Dick Pughqnd Carey Pugh!

Read , let it sink in, then read again :

“No. 1. Get your tack and equipment just right, and then forget about it and concentrate on the horse.

No. 2. The horse is bigger than you are, and it should carry you. The quieter you sit, the easier this will be for the horse.

No. 3. The horse's engine is in the rear. Thus, you must ride your horse from behind, and not focus on the forehand simply because you can see it.

No. 4. It takes two to pull. Don't pull. Push.

No. 5. For your horse to be keen but submissive, it must be calm, straight and forward.

No. 6. When the horse isn`t straight, the hollow side is the difficult side.

No. 7. The inside rein controls the bending, the outside rein controls the speed.

No. 8. Never rest your hands on the horse's mouth. You make a contract with it: "You carry your head and I'll carry my hands."

No. 10. Once you've used an aid, put it back.

No. 11. You can exaggerate every virtue into a defect.

No. 12. Always carry a stick, then you will seldom need it.

No. 13. If you`ve given something a fair trial, and it still doesn't work, try something else—even the opposite.

No. 14. Know when to start and when to stop. Know when to resist and when to reward.

No. 15. If you're going to have a fight, you pick the time and place.

No. 16. What you can't accomplish in an hour should usually be put off until tomorrow.

No. 17. You can think your way out of many problems faster than you can ride your way out of them.

No. 18. When the horse jumps, you go with it, not the other way around.

No. 19. Don`t let over-jumping or dull routine erode the horse's desire to jump cleanly. It's hard to jump clear rounds if the horse isn't trying.

No. 20. Never give up until the rail hits the ground.

No. 21. Young horses are like children—give them a lot of love, but don't let them get away with anything.

No. 22. In practice, do things as perfectly as you can; in competition, do what you have to do.

No. 23. Never fight the oats.

No. 24. The harder you work, the luckier you get."

We had a great day with the Alabama Hunter Jumpers Association at Clairmont Show Stables yesterday! Highlights include:
⭐️ Sydney taking home Champion aboard Pi in the older walk trot division, winning both over fences classes. The pair also had nice rides in the older cross pole division! It is so exciting to watch these two strengthen their partnership.
⭐️ Arrianna and Summer got great ribbons and had great rides in both the older walk trot and older cross pole divisions! Those two looked fabulous in the ring together! Arri never waivers when plans change and she has to ride a horse she wasn’t planning on riding. No complaints. No pouting. She just gets out there and rides and has fun.
⭐️ McKenna and Deklin worked through some hiccups and really did an awesome job in the hopeful hunter division where they earned two 4th place ribbons! This team is overcoming so much together and I can’t wait to see what their future holds! So proud of McKenna for never giving up.
⭐️ Chandler and Athena looked great in the hopeful division where they placed 2nd in both over fences. This was the biggest group we’ve had in hopeful and Athena still handled it all like a pro. Chandler also took Athena into the starting hunter division for the first time and the two of them did an awesome job! Sometimes it’s hard to remember that Athena is only 4! Chandler is making her into quite a stellar horse.

Thank you to Haylee Lewis-Vermilyer and Bruce for hauling horses, Stephani Paramore, Bridgitte Dick Pugh, Carey Pugh, Baylee Pugh, Cody Black Odom, and Chris Odom for all of your help, encouragement, and support not only yesterday but throughout all of our journeys and experiences. You guys really are the best barn family and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you all.
Thank you Shauna L. Eakin for being there with me and being the best barn manager/assistant trainer/friend and for helping boost these kids up and encouraging them.
Thank you Clair Allison for a great show! We had a great time!

Dearest Riders,

Please let me remind you of something very important. Horse showing, riding and training are insanely difficult. If you have a crappy ride, a less than stellar show ring result (or if you made your trainer want to pull their hair out today), it just means there's more to learn. The people who had good rides today are not exempt from disappointing rides tomorrow. They also have bad days and, if they're very experienced riders, they've had a whole bunch of bad days.

There will always be someone out there on a more talented horse, someone with a bigger bank account, someone who never struggled to learn to sit the trot...life isn't fair. You probably can't win the lottery or grow 5 more inches of leg. You can, however, wake up every morning and be thankful that you're able to ride horses. Work hard at becoming the best rider you can be with the body and the bank account that you have right now. Work at being the rider your horse wants up there on his back. Your horse's opinion of your riding is more valuable than any judge's opinion could ever be.
