Look closely 👀 How many legs did you see on that rambunctious rover? The answer: 3️⃣ The reason: read on…
Fridays are usually not boring at LCVC and the week when Moose’s owner called in a panic was no exception 😧 He and a housemate were playing outside and Moose made an unexpected move that resulted in him getting too close to the lawn mower (an accident that happens more times than we’d like to admit).
We received a call 📞 that the owners were on their way down and the team was ready when they got to the clinic. After assessing and stabilizing Moose with the combined efforts of one stellar team, the doctor went outside to “stabilize” the owner who was clearly shaken up ❤️🩹 Although Moose would be living his life as a tripod, he would be fine and in between the tears, the owner said, “The good news is that he’s lost 37 pounds since you put him on that ‘starvation’ diet.” 🥲
It’s true, that weight loss made for an unbelievable recovery 🤕 and according to the owner, Moose moves better now than when he had all four legs! 🏃♂️💨 Research has shown that dogs that maintain a lean body condition can expand their life expectancy by up to 2 years! 🥰 If you’re concerned about your pet’s weight (cat or dog), speak with one of our doctors to get them on a ‘healthy weight’ plan.
The moral of the story is that lean animals have an extended quality of life and we love that we can make a difference! 🐶💕🐾

A community effort with a happy ending ♥️ A Good Samaritan brought in a Gull when she and her husband found it tied to their dock with fishing line. They wrapped it in a towel and cut it free to discover that it had a fishing hook embedded in it’s wing.
They brought it to LCVC where Dr. Valin assessed the situation and with some help was able to free the bird from the hook. Our new feathered friend received some antibiotics and pain medication (along with the nickname, “Barb”). Dr. Beilman even shared some of his freshly caught dinner of walleye. Dr. Ambrosie returned the Gull to Skaneateles Lake where it was originally found and can be seen here returning to the sky! It was such a great moment- even “Barb’s” rescuer was there to see it take flight ♥️🐦
We’re so glad that everything worked out, but if you find wildlife, please don’t handle them- contact the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Wildlife Office 🦅 🦌 And remember to fish responsibly! 🎣
See the comments section below for more pictures of the wing after the hook was removed and to see a video of “Barb” reuniting with it’s mate before heading into town for dinner 😊
