“Horses are completely non-judgmental..They see us only as we present ourselves in the moment. They don't care what color we are, what religion, how rich or poor, man or woman. They are great equalizers.”

Recent studies conducted by the Institute of Heart-Math provide a clue to explain the two-way ′′healing′′ that occurs when we're close to horses.
According to researchers, the heart has an electromagnetic field larger than the brain: a magnetometer can measure the energy field of the heart that radiates from 2.4 meters to 3 meters around the human body.
While this is certainly significant, perhaps more impressive than the electromagnetic field projected by the heart of a horse is five times larger than that of a human being (imagine an electromagnetic sphere around the horse) and it can influence straight into our own heart rate.
Horses are also likely to have what science has identified as a "coherent′′ heart rate (heart rate pattern) that explains why we can feel better when we're close to them. Studies have found a coherent heart pattern or HRV to be a solid measure of well-being and consistent with emotional states of calm and joy-that is, we exhibit such patterns when we feel positive emotions.
A coherent heart pattern is indicative of a system that can recover and adapt to stressful situations very efficiently. Many times, we just need to be in the presence of horses to feel a sense of well-being and peace.
In fact, research shows that people experience many physiological benefits by interacting with horses, including lower blood pressure and heart rate, higher beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters acting as pain suppressors), decreased stress levels, decreased feelings of anger, hostility, tension and anxiety, better social working; and greater feelings of empowerment, confidence, patience and self-efficacy.

Judith Ann Rechsteiner, age 77, of Marengo, Illinois passed away peacefully in the presence of her husband Jim and son Jack on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Alden Estates of Huntley. Judy was born March 25, 1946 in Elgin to Lester and Phyllis (Taylor) Walters.
Judy was part of the first graduating class of Larkin High School in Elgin. On January 21, 1978 she married James E. Rechsteiner. From a very young age, Judy had a passion for horses with a desire to master all aspects of her craft. Together Judy and Jim, along with their family started Double J/R Quarter Horses over 40 years ago. One of her favorite experiences was helping students qualify and accompanying them to the "All American Quarter Horse Congress” in Columbus, Ohio. Through the business and her love of horses, she created a lasting legacy of students, clients, champions, and cherished friendships. Judy inspired many of her students to follow in her footsteps who went on to create their own businesses in the horse community. Judy also had a love of Dachshunds and had many throughout the years, she was especially fond of Chloe and Sophie.
Judy was a fan of country music, the NASCAR Brickyard 400, she enjoyed her gardens at the farm, and baking, especially her famous peach custard pie. Family gatherings at the holidays were always made special through her love of cooking and sharing of great food.
Judy is survived by her husband, Jim Rechsteiner; her children, Jack (the late Annette) Bechaud and Kristin (Patrick) Spaulding; her stepchildren, Jeremy (Jennifer) Rechsteiner and Aubrey (Lesliann) Higgins; her grandchildren, Danielle, Tyler; step grandchildren, Jared, Amber, Calli, Caitlin; her brother, John (Barb) Walters; her sisters-in-law, Michael Ann (the late Ted) Walters and Penny (the late Don) Stewart; her dear friend, Pam Merritt; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a gathering from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, September 23 at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy, Marengo. A Eulogy service will be held at 1:30pm.
In honoring Judy's love of nature and the outdoors, flowers are welcome for the gathering. You can also make a donation to the family for a tree to be planted in her honor at the farm.

The pika might just be the world's cutest thief! Despite their cuddly appearance, American pikas—the smallest members of the lagomorph group—are among North America's toughest animals. Pikas are one of the few mammals in the lower 48 states that can survive their entire lives in alpine terrain, the windswept no-man's-land above tree line. American pikas are small, rodent-like mammals. Pikas have short, stout bodies with big, round ears and do not have a visible tail. Pikas reach a size of about seven to eight inches (18 to 20 centimeters) in length. The American pika has a brown and black coloration, which is meant to camouflage them among rocks. Pika fur is thick to keep them warm in the winter. During the summer, they put on a much lighter coat of fur—however, the hair is still thick enough that a pika might overheat if exposed to very high heat for long periods of time.

How do you feel about this headset? Too high, too low? Watch: Gone Red Instead Green Trail Congress Champion - Gone Red Instead is a 2005 gelding, and a well rounded AQHA all around horse. Elijah just won the Green Trail with Jason Gilliam and was Reserve in the Novice Youth Trail with Koedi Lawley at the Quarter Horse Congress! He also is well rounded in Showmanship, Horsemanship, Equitation and Hunter Under Saddle Here’s what we think: This is not meant to depict how well a horse can navigate an actual trail. This is a horsemanship class to determine the rider and horse that best maneuver the course.
