✨ SUCCESS STORY ✨

Toby, a shy rescued sheltie, had a history of being a flight risk. He was found living on the streets and it took weeks for the rescue to be able to get him. Because of this, his new owners were worried about him getting loose and running away again. We addressed this concern through recall and threshold manners training.

As a result, Toby learned to wait for permission to exit and could be easily recalled if he got loose. This training gave his new owners peace of mind knowing that Toby would be safe and not end up running away like he had previously.

✨ TRAINER TIP ✨

Incorporating verbal markers into your dog training regimen can elevate the efficiency of your sessions. Although similar to clicker training, verbal markers necessitate fewer treats. When your dog engages in undesirable behavior, respond with a calm, even toned 'no'. In contrast, employ the verbal marker 'good' to reinforce desirable behavior. Lastly, reserve the marker 'yes' for instances where your dog completes a task successfully, mirroring the click and reward method in clicker training.

"Tell me about your training philosophy?"

Balanced training is a mix of rewarding what we want the dog to do more of and correcting the behavior we want to see less of. Training tools, treats and praise are all utilized in teaching your dog. I teach through repetition and routine, but the owner has to be willing to follow through at home too.

If you enjoy the learning process and want to learn how to do the training yourself, then private lessons may be the right choice for you. If you have a busy family and the repetitive nature of dog obedience does not fit in with your schedule, then a board & train program is likely better for you.

I initially encountered Griffin while dog walking and he was a rambunctious young puppy at the time. Observing his home environment revealed a network of baby gates designed to curb his behavior. Upon starting his training, I assured his owners that these gates would become unnecessary.

Griffin has since evolved into one of the most attentive and affectionate canine companions, rendering the gates obsolete! The commitment and follow-through demonstrated by his family have significantly contributed to his enduring success.
