Once-worried Luna has blossomed in foster and is an affectionate, happy girl now! She is also house- and kennel-trained, great with other dogs, respectful of cats, a gentle treat-taker and stunningly beautiful. She will not leave your side and her nubby tail wags non-stop. This 50 lbs Aussie x heeler gal is ready to find her forever home!

We need a little help!! We have an incredible transport opportunity coming up in just a few days and the hard work is all but done EXCEPT that we don’t have enough travel crates for the dogs accepted to fly!!
If you have a plastic crate whose length measures 28”, 32”, 36” or 40” we would love to accept it as a donation. The crates must be clean and secure but it is OK if there is a small crack or missing bolts. Snap together crates *may* be ok. (We don’t have any cats on board but we can accept cat carriers if you’ve got em! We cannot use wire crates for this transport, sorry!)
If you want to buy us a new plastic crate, we’d love that! And if you don’t have a crate to donate and don’t want to buy a one (they’re expensive, we absolutely know!!), you can donate to OTAT-West Texas and that will offset the costs!
Since we’re all far flung out here, just let us know where you are in a comment and we can advise where to drop the crate. This transport will rescue at-risk dogs from the Alpine, Marfa, McCamey, Pecos and Van Horn Animal Shelters as well as several shelterless communities! We thank you!

For this #WantedWednesday, we’re sharing Wrangle’s “Tall Tail”—a story of adventure, resilience, and the search for the perfect forever home, even if that means going back to where it all started.
Last year, Wrangle was one of the 766 pets rescued by OTAT-WTX. While 33 were adopted right here in Texas, Wrangle was transported to Chicago before returning to West Texas hoping for his match. He’s living proof that not every dog is suited for city life—some, like Wrangle, are meant to roam wide-open spaces and embrace the free spirit of places as wild as West Texas.
Wrangle’s journey hasn’t been easy. After city life proved to be the wrong fit for our sensitive guy, we brought him back to small town livin’, where he’s thriving in foster on a remote ranch. Wrangle’s foster mom says he’s the perfect blend of lover boy and wild boy—a loyal companion who loves road trips, long & short hikes, and lazy cuddle puddle days. Wrangle’s DNA test results (watch the reel for results) may show he’s a wild at heart husky mix, but here at OTAT-WTX, Wrangle is 100% wild, free, safe, and loved. And that’s how we hope to keep him.
For Wrangle and so many other West Texas pets in need of loving homes, we hope 2025 will bring more local/regional West Texas adoptions. Let’s find Wrangle his forever home—a place that matches his wild & loving heart.
Curious about what makes Wrangle so unique? Check out his breed DNA results above and meet him at otatwtx.org/dogs/wrangle.
You can support Wrangle and our rescue mission by snagging a discount on an @embarkvet DNA Test Kit! Use our link to shop (link in stories & DNA Tests highlight), select “One Tail at a Time West Texas,” and we’ll receive a portion of the proceeds to help more dogs like Wrangle find their happy ending.

Foxfire’s journey is a testament to the lifesaving work we do—work that wouldn’t be possible without our fosters, vets, and partners.
When Foxfire came to us in October, she’d just given birth (no puppies came with her), and she was battling mastitis, heartworms, and malnourishment. Scared and struggling, she had a long road ahead. But thanks to her incredible foster family, who stepped in to provide soft beds, nourishing food, and a calm environment, Foxfire has been given the care and love she needed to heal.
This week, she reached a huge milestone: her heartworm injections are complete, and her 30 days of rest and recovery are underway. It’s moments like this that remind us what rescue is all about—giving dogs like Foxfire a new beginning.
With Christmas around the corner, Foxfire will even get her own stocking to celebrate how far she’s come. And soon, she’ll be ready for her forever home. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion, Foxfire might just be the one for you. Visit otatwtx.org/dogs/foxfire to learn more and apply to adopt her today!
Thank you to everyone who makes this work possible—fosters, donors, vets, and advocates. Together, we’re changing lives, one dog at a time.

Today we are throwing a lil “pittie” party—because even though we didn’t reach our Giving Tuesday goal, there’s still so much to celebrate (and so much work to do).
Take Nala & Simba, for example. These two pittie pups came to us with their mom when they were just under two weeks old, the only survivors of their litter. Shelter stress made it impossible for their mom to care for them, so once they were able to eat on their own, they moved into foster care. That’s where their sweet, spunky personalities began to shine. Now, they’re gearing up for their biggest adventure yet—flying to Portland this Friday to find forever homes through our sister rescue One Tail at a Time PDX.
Their journey is exactly why we keep going, even when we fall short of our goals. Every dollar raised makes happy endings like this possible. So, if you missed Giving Tuesday, it’s not too late to help. Join the pittie party and be part of their story!
