Foxfire’s journey is a testament to the lifesaving work we do—work that wouldn’t be possible without our fosters, vets, and partners.
When Foxfire came to us in October, she’d just given birth (no puppies came with her), and she was battling mastitis, heartworms, and malnourishment. Scared and struggling, she had a long road ahead. But thanks to her incredible foster family, who stepped in to provide soft beds, nourishing food, and a calm environment, Foxfire has been given the care and love she needed to heal.
This week, she reached a huge milestone: her heartworm injections are complete, and her 30 days of rest and recovery are underway. It’s moments like this that remind us what rescue is all about—giving dogs like Foxfire a new beginning.
With Christmas around the corner, Foxfire will even get her own stocking to celebrate how far she’s come. And soon, she’ll be ready for her forever home. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion, Foxfire might just be the one for you. Visit otatwtx.org/dogs/foxfire to learn more and apply to adopt her today!
Thank you to everyone who makes this work possible—fosters, donors, vets, and advocates. Together, we’re changing lives, one dog at a time.

Today we are throwing a lil “pittie” party—because even though we didn’t reach our Giving Tuesday goal, there’s still so much to celebrate (and so much work to do).
Take Nala & Simba, for example. These two pittie pups came to us with their mom when they were just under two weeks old, the only survivors of their litter. Shelter stress made it impossible for their mom to care for them, so once they were able to eat on their own, they moved into foster care. That’s where their sweet, spunky personalities began to shine. Now, they’re gearing up for their biggest adventure yet—flying to Portland this Friday to find forever homes through our sister rescue One Tail at a Time PDX.
Their journey is exactly why we keep going, even when we fall short of our goals. Every dollar raised makes happy endings like this possible. So, if you missed Giving Tuesday, it’s not too late to help. Join the pittie party and be part of their story!

Back in early May we heard about a stray dog running around inside the Presidio grocery store. Three days later our volunteer sent us this video from the Shelter- the same dog now unable to stand up and with obvious trauma to her head/face… See our previous post to see Biddle now! And help us save more West Texas dogs like Biddle by donating to One Tail at a Time West Texas this Giving Tuesday. 🐾🩵 Donate: facebook.com/donate/888767656770819/?fundraiser_source=external_url

We’ve got a big dog problem in a small Texas place: scores of dogs in heartbreakingly inhumane conditions way out in rural Hudspeth County. These pups are a bunch of little to medium scruffy types and our first haul revealed them to be really nice (really friendly! really grateful!) doggos who seamlessly have embraced a cushier life. They want to be beloved pets!
We’re going to make the trek out that way again on Wednesday and it’s our big chance to do high impact work in a place that has almost no other help. We’d love to come back with 10 sweet dogs whose lives will be radically transformed because YOU said “yes” to giving them a safe loving place for just a couple of weeks. We do this work ‘one tail at a time’ because every dog matters.

#MostWantedWednesday brings you Penelope—a resilient, gentle soul and one of the Fall Fix-Up Medical Fund’s featured dogs. Penelope has been through a lot. Rescued from a yard in Pecos where she was kept in a small crate with her three pups, she’s fought hard to get to where she is now. Her pups have already found the good life, and now it’s Penelope’s turn.
Penelope survived distemper and has a slight neurological tremor as a reminder of her journey. She’s also getting treatment for ear and skin infections, likely from her past life on hard dirt and poor food. When she first arrived, she was so underweight that spaying had to wait, but now, thanks to dedicated foster care and support, she’s well on her way.
This polite momma dog is on the hunt for a home where she can finally relax. She’s shy at first but quickly warms up to the people she trusts. She’s housetrained, loves her crate, and does well on a leash. Penelope would likely enjoy a calm dog buddy for reassurance and would make a wonderful, affectionate companion.
The Fall Fix-Up Fund is here to cover costs for Penelope and dogs like her who need extra care to heal. Every donation helps dogs like Penelope get back on their paws and take steps toward new lives. If you’re looking to make a difference or thinking about adoption, please consider giving or sharing Penelope’s story.
Help us find Penelope the life she deserves. Visit otatwtx.org for more info.

From the wide-open skies of West Texas to homes across the state, our rescue story is now reaching more people than ever. What started as a humble effort to save dogs in some of the most remote corners of Texas is now being shared with thousands, thanks to Texas Country Reporter. We couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity, because we know, ‘They gotta be seen to be saved.’
Special thanks to the TCR team and Abigail Adams for giving our West Texas dogs a voice. You can watch the full feature on their latest episode (episode 5)—head to tcr.texasmonthly.com (link in stories). And, visit otatwtx.org to meet our adoptable dogs, our full team, and learn how you can get involved in our mission to save lives across West Texas.
