What is UrgentVet? Think of us like urgent care for pets. šŸ¾

In human healthcare, you see your regular doctor for wellness visits and planned procedures, and you go to the ER when itā€™s life-threatening. For everything in between, you visit urgent care.

The same applies to veterinary care! Pets visit their regular vet for checkups and vaccinations, and the emergency vet for serious, life-threatening issues. Weā€™re here for everything in betweenā€”like cuts, bites, itching, diarrhea, vomiting, limping, scooting, and more.

Save your spot online or just walk in. Weā€™re open weekdays 3 PM to 11 PM and weekends 10 AM to 8 PM.

08/17/2024

With the heat still in full swing, remember that our furry friends feel it too! Walking your dog in hot weather can lead to heatstroke and other injuries. Here's why: Concrete and asphalt retain heat, making it much hotter for your pet, and these surfaces can burn their paw pads. When itā€™s above 80-85 degrees, itā€™s best to walk your dog in the early morning or at dusk. If thatā€™s not possible, keep walks short and stay on the grass. Always provide plenty of water and watch for signs of heatstroke, such as excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, and confusion. If you notice any of these, bring your pet to us right away.

Pet Tip Friday!
Washing your petā€™s toys, blankets, and bedding removes germs, dirt, pollen, burrs, small hitchhiking bugs, and other irritants. Some furry friends suffer from seasonal allergies, so itā€™s important to wash their bedding regularly. This is also a great time to clean their food and water dishes and tidy up the area where they eat and sleep.

Ā
I had a little adventure recentlyā€”I escaped from the house for a few minutes! It was super exciting, but I ended up with a small wound on my side. Boo! My pet parent took me straight to UrgentVet to get fixed up. The team there took great care of me. They were so nice, I hardly even noticed I was at the ā€œscary vetā€™s officeā€ (lol). They treated my owie, and now Iā€™m on antibiotics to help me heal. šŸ©¹šŸ’Š Thanks, UrgentVet! Canā€™t wait for more adventures (safe ones!).

Pipoca came in due to wounds from a dog fight, luckily his owner knew to head over to UrgentVet East Cobb!

After Dr. G examined Pipoca he decided it would be best to clip the area that way the wounds were exposed and could be cleaned properly. In hospital he got lots of love along with some treats, as you can see he loved the treats! He went home with some medication and is feeling better already! šŸ¾

For those same-day concerns that donā€™t require an ER visit, come see us at UrgentVet. We promise to take exceptional care of your best friend.

Cats love to scratchā€”itā€™s in their DNA! Whether theyā€™re playing, stretching, or marking their territory, scratching is essential for feline happiness. To keep those claws content, offer a variety of scratching surfaces and see which one becomes their favorite. Vertical, angled, or horizontalā€”let your cat be the judge! Popular materials like cardboard, carpet, wood, and rope are all great choices. And remember, a well-worn scratching post isnā€™t a sign of wear and tear, but of love and loyalty. Itā€™s their go-to spot, so think twice before tossing it out!
Ā
At UrgentVet, weā€™re as passionate about your catā€™s happiness as you are. If you ever have concerns, weā€™re just a call (or a scratch) away. šŸ¾

This is Mr.Cooper, he saw us due to being uncomfortable and vomiting white foamy bile.

Cooper has a history of bladder stones and the owners werenā€™t sure if this previous concern was causing him pain this time around too. The Dr examined Cooper and noticed his abdomen was tight and painful along with a large bladder on palpitation. We did blood work and x-rays, unfortunately on the x-rays stones were seen in the bladder. We gave our friend an anti-nausea, anti-vomiting injection to help with him vomiting white foamy bile and referred him to our friends down the street for surgery. Feel better Cooper! šŸ¶

Rhys came to visit us for toenail concerns and left feeling much better!

Unfortunately, he tore his toenail a few days earlier, the owner let us know it was healing, but looked irritated when she took another look at it a few days later. Luckily she brought her baby to us, the Dr. examined him and went to work on getting him treated! He received a pain and anti-inflammatory injection in hospital and went home with medication to help him feel better as well! šŸˆā€ā¬›

This is little Laro, he came into the hospital for starting to limp unexpectedly.

The Dr. took a look at our friend and recommended radiographs to check the foot to make sure nothing was broken! Luckily nothing abnormal was found of the views! We gave him an anti-inflammatory and pain medication to help with what he was experiencing. Weā€™re glad to see our friend is doing better thanks to our Dr. and staff here in hospital!šŸ¾

This Johnny Bogan, he came in because he loves to eat his kibble, maybe a little too muchšŸ˜±

Johnny Boganā€™s owners noticed he seemed uncomfortable and had an upset stomach. They realized he had gotten into his dog food and ate until he couldnā€™t eat anymore, thankfully his owners brought him in! After the Dr examined him and did x-rays she found food bloat had occurred, we induced vomiting and saw lots of undigested food! To prevent further vomiting Johnny Bogan was given an injection of an anti-nausea, anti-vomiting medication and SQ fluids to rehydrate. Johnny Bogan went home and felt much better, weā€™re glad his owners trusted us to take care of him!šŸ¾

This is Gusto, he was getting a treat from his owners on a spatula, got a little excited and ate some of the spatulašŸ˜³

Gustoā€™s owners did the right thing and brought him in, Dr.G examined him and induced vomiting to see if the spatula would come up, but we didnā€™t see the spatula yet. The Dr. advised the owner we should take radiographs to see where it might be, after looking at the radiograph we did send Gusto to ER due to the location of the spatula for further diagnostics.

Doggone, it's summer! šŸŒžšŸ¾
Here are some summer safety tips for walking dogs in the summer:
ā€¢ Limit dog walks during the hottest hours of the day.
ā€¢ Make sure you bring water for you and your dog and offer more water breaks!
ā€¢ Avoid hot surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, wood, and sand. Walk on grass or use booties to protect their feet.
ā€¢ Plan routes that have shaded areas where your dog can rest if needed.

*Be aware of symptoms like excessive panting, drooling, rapid heartbeat, fever, vomiting, or collapse. If you notice these, seek veterinary care immediately.*

If your pup or cat experiences any of the symptoms above UrgentVet is here for you Monday - Friday 3pm to 11 pm and Saturday - Sunday 10 am - 8pm. You can save your spot online or just walk-in. Always prioritize your dog's safety and comfort during summer walks!

Be careful when closing doors, there might be a tail in there by accident!

Tucker came in for a cut on the end of his tail due to it being closed in the door by accident over the weekend! Once Tucker was evaluated by Dr.M and we shaved some fur off she let the owner know the tip of the tail would be amputated. Here pictured with Tucker is Caroline, she monitored Tucker during his procedure and gave him lots of cuddles afterwards! Tucker is home feeling much better with some medication on board!
