Meet Otis! Look at these eyes! Otis was recently adopted from Atlanta Humane Society. Our goal is to give him a foundation to be an excellent family dog. He is on the right track so far. We are working on greetings, leash walking, and learning some basic skills. And of course, enrichment is a big part of what I do, note the snuffle mat. šŸ˜Š Itā€™s important to meet his doggy needs. We will definitely be trying some dog parkour as well.

I give a 10% discount to all dogs and puppies adopted from a shelter, the Humane Society, or a reputable rescue. Now is a fantastic time to adopt!

ā€œThe application of aversive methodsā€”which, by definition, rely on application of force, pain, or emotional or physical discomfortā€”should not be used in canine training or for the treatment of behavioral disorders.ā€

Science shows that aversive methods have risks for dogsā€™ welfare, so we have to keep explaining that the best approach to dog training is one that uses rewards.

Meet Coral! This sweet girl was recently adopted from LifeLine Animal Project. She is fantastic. An absolute sweetheart. Coral is great with kids, which was a must, for her new family.

Coral was in a foster home. Foster homes are essential in the world of rescue. Foster homes allow the dog the opportunity to decompress from the shelter and then you really get to know the dog and match them with the perfect home.

I think it is safe to say the Coral has found her perfect match.

Congrats to Coral and her new family!

If you have recently added a dog to your family or plan to, please reach out. I can offer support for you, your family, and your new dog as everyone settles in.

I give a 10% on all services for those that have adopted from a shelter, the humane society, or a reputable rescue.

Happy back to school Cobb County! As a former high school teacher, seeing the busses reminded me of how far I am from the classroom I used to teach in. Yet what I do now allows me do what I loveā€¦.teach!!

I truly enjoy teaching my clients and their pups. While Iā€™m called a ā€œdog trainerā€, much of what I do is actually teaching the dogā€™s guardian.

Today I spent time with Molly and her person! We had a blast! Molly is eager to learn and always has a smile on her face! She loves to coming running when called!

Meet Zhima! She is a reminder to us all how important it is to be open to trying new things and challenging yourself. Challenges allow us to grow. Two months ago a couple, who are visually impaired, reached out to me about dog training. They had recently adopted Zhima as a companion dog. They reached out to several trainers who were not willing to take them on as clients. I was open, and honest about my experience and how this would be new to me. We were both willing to try. I am so glad I did. It was a fantastic experience for all of us and a success. I was able to help them with managing their space and greetings so that Zhima doesnā€™t bolt out the front door, teach them some useful cues, introduce them to enrichment, and help with leash walking. This experience challenged me to think about new ways to teach my clients. It helped me grow and has made me a better trainer. A big thank you to Zhima and her people! So proud of the work we did together!

I had the pleasure of meeting several amazing dogs who are available for adoption!

Fairy: is a petite sweet girl. She is a great size at 32 lbs. Fairy is approximately 8 months old. She was hesitant at first, but once she tried a few parkour skills, she enjoyed it and had a lot of fun.

Racoon: is full of energy and life! Heā€™s approximately 3 years old and 50 lbs. He really enjoyed dog parkour. After a few minutes of running around and meeting all of us, he was able to settle down and focus. He is a parkour natural.

Jack: is a cutie. He is energetic and really enjoyed dog parkour. He tried it all and loved it. Another parkour natural. Jack is 45 lbs. and approximately 4 years old.

Whisper: is a special guy. He is deaf, but you wouldnā€™t know it. He is a typical energetic 1 Ā½ year old. enthusiastic and loves people. Once he settled down, he rocked dog parkour. He did two feet on, four feet on, around, and over using a lure.

Axel: is a solid dog. He is approximately 2 years old about almost 40 lbs. He is happy and enjoys meeting people. While a bit hesitant with parkour initially, once he tried it, he loved it. He is a great listener.

I am so fortunate to have incredible and committed clients, like Willowā€™s people. Willow was adopted from a local rescue wasnā€™t exactly the easy button dog they thought she was going to be. Willow has some quirks that we needed to work through and some that we needed to accept. She has come a long way since I first met her in January. This is due to the love, commitment, acceptance, and letā€™s face it work, on her peopleā€™s part. I am so proud of Willow and how she has grown. I am proud of her people. This is one of the reasons I love my job. Willow is a very lucky dog.

Meet Money, Bailey, and Robby!

Money is the cutest compact little pittie girl! Sheā€™s about 3 years old. She is a parkour rockstar! She loves showing off her 2 feet up, even putting her feet up on a fire hydrant! She tried everything today and have a blast doing it. She is foot motivated.

Aww, sweet Bailey! He is a happy, young boy who loves people! While not a parkour natural, he enjoyed spending time with us and did well with under.

And Robby! Another parkour rockstar! He is energetic and confident. He tried it all! Even 4 feet up. He enjoys learning new things and is food motivated.

If you are looking to adopt or foster, Fulton dogs need you. There are lots of great dogs ready to go home with you today.

We worked on through, 2 feet up, 4 feet up, under, around, over, and in.

My heart is full. When I first met Ruby several months ago, she had recently been adopted. She was stressed, fearful, and lacked confidence. With love and a commitment by Rubyā€™s person, this girl has grown so much. She is a happy and more confident dog. I love seeing Rubyā€™s smile. Yes, Ruby still shows signs of fear and is more timid than many dogs, but she is in a home that understands her and is taking things slow. Ruby really hit the jackpot! I am so happy for her and so proud of Ruby and her person! Yay Ruby!

I really enjoy working with the shy pups. There is nothing quite like watching a shy pup come out of their shell, grow, and SMILE!

I love working with puppies and their guardians! It is so much fun!

Meet two new puppy clients; Bear (look at these ears!) and Lola!

While training puppies, many people and programs focus on learning manners, but there is much more to raising a puppy to be a happy, confident, and calm dog, than learning manners. My puppy package is intended to help your puppy grow into the best dog they can be!

If you have a puppy or plan to get one soon, please give me a call 770-971-6093 or email me at [email protected]

Yes! This. Not only does this apply to separation anxiety, but to training and life in general.

"While I understand that it is easier said than done, in order to break free from urgency and foster true progress, we must learn to cultivate patience and a willingness to embrace uncertainty."

Urgency is the Enemy of Progress by Malena DeMartini

There is no question in my mind about the genuine need to regain your life and leave your home without the tremendous concern for your dogā€™s wellbeing. I get it. Iā€™ve been through a separation anxiety protocol with my own dog, Tini DeMartini, and I have not forgotten the painstaking weeks and months I devoted to helping her learn that alone time is safe. Outings as simple as grocery shopping or picking up a prescription became a pet sitter coordinating event back then, and it was hard ā€“ very hard.

I have learned so much through Tiniā€™s journey and the journeys of the many hundreds of dogs and guardians I have worked with, and I hope to share some of those lessons with you. One that strikes me as incredibly important today is that urgency is the enemy of progress.

Meet Gummy Bear! He is available for adoption through Lifeline and the Fulton County Animal Shelter. He is currently in a foster home and doing fantastic! Gummy Bear is about 3 Ā½ years old. Great with people. Good with cats. He may be dog selective. He has coexisted with dogs, but does have some leash reactivity.

We met yesterday to work on this. Gummy Bear did great! He is very food motivated and responded quickly to ā€œlook at meā€ and ā€œfind itā€. We met at a park on an off time on a drizzly day. Perfect for practicing low stress walks. He got lots of sniffing in. We saw several people and dogs at a distance. While he whined at dogs he saw in the distance, Gummy Bear responded to ā€œlook at meā€ and ā€œfind itā€.

Gummy Bear may not be a brewery dog, but he will be perfectly fine and happy at home when you go out to the brewery! He is crate trained, potty trained, and loves to lounge around at home. He is a snuggler.

There are three important components to successfully welcoming a dog into your home, whether you are adopting or fostering.

Decompression, management, and reinforcement

Decompression: Dogs need time to decompress. The shelter is a stressful place. Decompression allows them to relax, experience calm, and start to learn a new routine.

Management: This is an important training tool. Management allows you to control the environment so that your dog doesn't continue to practice an undesirable behavior, such as counter surfing or leash reactivity.

Reinforcement: This simply means to increase a behavior. When you use positive reinforcement, give your dog something they find rewarding, you reinforce and teach your dog the behaviors you want them to engage in.

Set you new dog or foster up for success by allowing them to decompress, managing the environment, and using positive reinforcement to teach them.

I had so much fun teaching Intro to Parkour! If you are interested taking an intro to parkour class, please reach out. We have another one scheduled soon.

Parkour aka urban agility, is an incredible way to engage with your pup on a whole new level and build your relationship. At the novice level, some of the skills we learn are 2 feet up, over, under, through, around, and balance. It's great for confidence building and impulse control. Most importantly, it is fun for both you and your pup.
