Puppy socialization! It’s more than play dates. It’s showing your puppy the world and how they can appropriately interact with it, making sure their experiences have positive outcomes and they learn to be neutral to common things in their environment.
Think about your daily routine, environment, lifestyle, and activities. Make a list of any objects, experiences, sounds, brings, etc. that your puppy will need to be ok with. Then bring treats and spend time around all of that. Gauge your puppy’s reaction and make super positive experiences out of your time out with them.
And enjoy eachother!!

Our puppy, Potato, took another trip to Marietta Square to experience traffic noise, passing people and dogs, squirrels, settling at a park bench, and the fountain!
Our goal is neutrality with a focus on handler engagement and he’s doing awesome!

This little cutie had his first lesson with trainer Brandi today!! Finn’s owner is learning to teach him all the basics through our 6-session Private Lesson Program. Today, he started working on Place and expanding his skill to stay seated longer.
He’s super motivated and his owner is dedicated so I think they’re going to go far! He’ll be a proper little gentleman in no time ❤️

Do y’all have any that you would add to this list?

In my experience as a trainer, I would like to emphasize #8 and #12. I absolutely love those breeds as family dogs💛🐾💙 I actually just suggested #12 to a family looking for breed suggestions.

When bringing a dog into a home with children, there are many things to consider. Check out these breeds as options for your next family pet.

8 Last-minute Tips for 🍁Thanksgiving🍁 with Your Dog:

1. Pre-holiday exercise: Ensure your dog feels fulfilled by setting aside some time before the festivities to exercise, play, and train. Both physical and mental exercise will help your dog feel more relaxed while you’re busy with family and friends.

2. Greeting guests: When guests first arrive, make sure you’re available to work your dog through the excitement, correcting jumping and rewarding calm behavior. Or allow for some crate/place time until they settle down.

3. Quiet Time: Practice having your dog settle in a designated spot (place) or give them crate time to allow them to decompress from all the excitement.

4. Advocate for your dog: Make sure your guests respect the rules you have for your dog. It’s not fair to your dog if your guests are getting them hyped up or stressing them out. Not everyone knows how to spot the signs of an anxious or overexcited dog but you know your dog best so advocate for them.

5. Introduce New Faces: If there are unfamiliar faces, let your dog meet them calmly on a leash or in a calm setting before letting them roam freely. Remember, it’s important to allow a dog to meet people on their terms. Don’t force them to interact.

6. Be opportunistic (if it doesn’t take you away from your guests): Thanksgiving can be a great socialization opportunity for dogs who are ready for it. Reward good behavior with treats or praise, reinforcing positive interactions throughout the day.

7. Supervision is imperative: If there are other dogs around, supervise them at all times as there are all types of resources lying around during the holiday.

8. Be Patient: Thanksgiving can be overwhelming for many Zk . Be patient, and if needed, give them breaks so they have a chance to relax away from the chaos.

Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the holiday with your pup!

Hello everyone! We’ve had such a busy but amazing few months and we thank you for your patience as we get back into the swing of posting regularly. As we kick off a new month, we’ll be focusing on delivering our very first service dog trained at our Georgia location. We’ll be posting throughout the delivery journey so follow along!
In the meantime, here are some dog training tips for November 1st and beyond:

1. **Outdoor Exploration**: Take your pup for a walk to explore the fall foliage. This is a fantastic opportunity to practice loose-leash walking and reinforce basic commands like "sit" and "stay."

2. **Thanksgiving Prep**: With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, work on polite greetings and manners around guests. Teach your dog not to jump on people or sn**ch food from the table.

3. **Cold Weather Training**: As the weather gets colder, don't skip outdoor training sessions. Keep your dog's exercise routine going and work on commands even in chilly conditions.

4. **Indoor Enrichment**: For those days when the weather is too cold for our Georgia blood, provide indoor mental stimulation. Puzzle toys, treat-dispensing gadgets, and indoor agility courses can keep your dog engaged.

5. **Socialization**: Now is a great time to focus on socializing your dog in indoor environments. Find local dog-friendly stores and show your dog what a cool place the world is!

6. **Crate Training**: If you're planning to travel for the holidays, work on crate training now to ensure your dog is comfortable and secure in their crate.

7. **Patience and Consistency**: Remember, dog training is an ongoing process. Be patient, stay consistent, and use positive reinforcement techniques to encourage good behavior.

8. **Seek Professional Help**: If you're facing specific challenges or behaviors that you can't seem to tackle on your own, don't hesitate to consult a professional dog trainer.

Let's make this November a month of progress and bonding with our pups! Happy training, and may your days be filled with tail wags and treats! 🐕❤️🍂

Buddy graduated his 3-Week Training Program today! Check out this highlight of what he learned during his stay with us ❤️

09/22/2023

If your pup seems a bit out of control, don’t let those bad behaviors become bad habits! Enroll them in a training program where they can learn invaluable life skills.

Obedience training is more than just tricks for treats. Stay helps build self-control. Place helps develop patience and a calm mindset. Down helps with settling in different environments. Sit helps discourage the choice to jump up. And come builds engagement in you.
Obedience training not only helps your dog become a well-rounded family member but it can do so much more for your relationship with them as well ❤️
