Zabi is the Atlanta Humane Society pet this week!

Zabi is a 5-year-old charming and friendly cat with a unique blend of energy and relaxation. Enthusiastic about meeting new people, Zabi loves exploring and learning from new experiences. However, this cool feline prefers to be the only pet in a calm environment, ideally without small children. Affectionate on his terms, Zabi enjoys scratches and fonds wand toys (especially those with feathers), kicker toys, and sunbathing by the window. One of Zabi's most endearing traits is their talkativeness—meowing in response to being called or even just receiving a glance. At bedtime, Zabi loves hopping onto the bed for some extra cuddles and pets. Zabi is currently hanging out in an Atlanta Humane foster home while he awaits his new home so you can visit atlantahumane.org/cats to meet him.

Sassy is the Atlanta Humane Society pet this week!

Sassy is a laid-back, couch potato kind of kitty with a calm, easygoing personality. This 13-year-old doesn't have crazy zoomies or wild antics—she’s all about chill vibes. She loves being near her people and, while she’s not a big fan of cuddling, she adores being petted, especially with chin scratches. She becomes a purring machine when she gets attention, ready to fill the room with her soothing purrs. Sassy can be a bit shy when meeting new people. Loud noises or sudden movements might startle her, prompting her to retreat to her favorite hiding spot for a breather. However, once she feels comfortable and settled, she’ll warm up and enjoy being close by. She’s also quite the conversationalist—if you talk to her, she’ll meow back, her way of chatting with you. This chunky girl has mastered the art of lounging, often looking adorably silly as she naps around the house like a true professional. While she’s mostly relaxed, she’s always up for a petting session or a friendly exchange of meows. If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate companion who loves her quiet time but also enjoys being near you, Sassy might just be the perfect match. How do I brush my pet’s teeth?

Your veterinary team can demonstrate proper brushing techniques for your pet. In most cases, it is sufficient to brush the outer edges of the teeth. Your veterinarian can also supply you with the proper cleaning supplies. All you need is:

A soft toothbrush. There are special brushes designed for pets, an alternative is a soft fingertip brush.

Palatable pet toothpaste. Do not use toothpaste designed for humans as it may contain ingredients that are not safe for pets.

Treats. Choose a treat that your pet does not need to chew but can lick easily, such as a dab of cream cheese or yogurt.

Canine influenza, or “dog flu,” is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can be passed from dog to dog. It typically starts with a cough and can be mistaken for the more common and well-known Bordetella. In some cases, canine influenza can progress to pneumonia.
