What is wrong with these pictures?
Answer: Nothing!
Every winter we get messages from people concerned after seeing horses outside or with snow on their backs. If you see snow building up on a horse’s back or rump, you are looking at proof that body heat is not escaping through the hair to melt the snow, and their coat is keeping them properly insulated and warm! Also, the best way for a horse to stay warm is by eating! During this weather horses should have access to hay 24/7 to keep their internal furnaces going. Because they are eating so much forage to keep warm, it is also extremely important that they have access to fresh water at all times. You can also see in these pictures that these ponies have access to 2 separate shelters with dry bedding and lots of hay, but they will almost always choose to be out side!
