Well what a productive Saturday morning. Thanks to the officers, we prepped and sorted over 2000 lbs of dog food and a 1000 lbs of cat food. This will be distributed between the Marion county food bank and a couple other rescue personnel.

So I'm at Walmart in Newton. When I come out this poor little dog was locked in this car , with the window cracked open. I waited for 5 minutes before I was going to break the window. When this old man comes out and sees me taking a picture of his car. He says you like my little car. I sharply replied NO but I was about to break your window and take your dog. He replied it's not that hot outside, it was a sunny 82 degrees. I asked him how he would like it if I locked you in the car while I went shopping. Needless to say we had an exchange of words. I finally told him, if I see it again I will knock out your window and take the dog. M
People it doesn't have to be that hot when the sun is shining thru the window.
Save yourself the price of a window and don't let me see this again.

If any of you are headed to bent rim rally in Florence KS. Memorial weekend. Please visit us at the entrance to the camp ground. We are your official ice supplier for the races. All proceeds go to help feeding the animals of Marion county, and under construction is or new.

If the weather is permitting this coming Saturday, we will be back at the dog park putting up fence and doing some clean up. We have something to do for everyone not everything will be a heavy job.

Hello, my name is Sister. Kinda like the "Boy named Sue", I'm a 10 yo neutered male. I have lived most of my life 60% inside 40% outdoors with my owner in a small Chase County town. Her late husband named me sister as a tiny kitten as I have always been a "lover", and it never changed.

In October I moved with her to Marion and adjusted well. I use my litter box and don't damage things. Unfortunately just after Thanksgiving she fell and broke her femur. I'm tired of hanging out alone at the apartment and would love to find someone to hang out with while she (hopefully) gets well enough to move back home. I would bring my own litter box and first two weeks of food. I am up to date at my vet and can provide details. I even come with some flea/tick meds, although I haven't had any issues.

At this time I would like to update or inform those who are ill informed, or don't know our mission.
At this time. We can not, and do not board, train, or rescue, any animals.

However, we do help network and help to re-home animals.
We receive no money for this.
We also supply dog and cat food for those who need our help.
We donate pet food monthly to the Marion County Foodbank. We also donate food to
Caring Hands Animal shelter in Newton, and other various organizations.
We do accept donations, and do fundraising events.
ALL of the above are approved by Kansas Department of Agriculture.
We just wanted to clear the air on EXACTLY what we do.

There is a movie coming out on Feb 18 called "Dog". It stars Channing Tatum and a highly trained Belgian Malinois. It's a road trip/buddy movie.

People are going to see this film and many will want their own Belgian Malinois. This is not going to end well for this breed.

A highly trained Malinois is a work of art. So is Michelangelo's statue of David but I don't necessarily want it in my living room.

This breed can be amazing in the right hands but they require a lot of everything. If you are considering getting a Malinois, please, first go meet some Malinois of all ages at your local rescue.

Be honest with yourself about the amount of time that you have to dedicate to training one of these dogs. Not the person that you want to be but the person that you are right now. Sitting on your ass and reading this post.

If you are still determined to get one. You can stem the inevitable tidal wave of Malinois that will be surrendered to the shelters by sourcing your dog in one of 3 places:

Your local shelter
A local Malinois rescue
A real, ethical breeder (researching one is hard work but an ethical breeder will prove their dogs and require that you return the dog to them if you can't keep it)

DO NOT get a Malinois from the guy down the street. Don't help backyard breeders line their pockets. Pure bred doesn't equal good breeding.

If you see the popularity of these dogs sky rocket and think you can make a quick buck by breeding some. May all of your financial ventures fail one after another.

I admit that the land transfer has taken way longer than I anticipated. Staying in touch, and yesterday they were hoping to get everyone involved from their end, signed off. They are an extremely large business, with corporate executives in several states, that this has to channel thru. Hoping by end of next week, to know if a simple quit-claim could be filled. If so things could happen quickly. Waiting on our engineering company to finalize our project plans. With 2 to 3 design options. When I receive them I will share on here , for everyone to see what an upscale facility we want to install. I'm getting so excited. We were also able to speak with our legal zoom attorneys, about permit options.
Keep your fingers crossed 🤞 that things start to move a little quicker and smoother, with everyone involved.

Been working on these kennels for a few weeks now. Finally got the doggie doors in, the kennels up and dogs in them. 8 indoor outdoor kennels, and 3 puppy pens.
If they were only ours, but hey were still saving dogs from being euthanized.

Farm Cat Spay / Neuter Day will be next Thursday, August 5th. This event offers reduced price spays and neuters. Call 620-382-8800 and talk to Alli or Rachel to schedule a slot! Be sure your cat has been held off of food and water after 8PM the night before. Cats to be dropped off in the morning by 9AM in a clean, sturdy carrier, and picked up between 4-5pm. Dr. Jessica Laurin says she is looking forward to it!!

Guys, I promise this isn’t another usual my-dog-on-leash-other-dog-off-leash type of post. It gets good! (Or I think it does 🤣)

The other day I was on the local public park (not a dog park, but dogs are allowed) walking Menta. We were on a high movement area, so I had her on a leash. Another dog, off leash, sees us and starts approaching. Menta wasn’t interested and started moving away, but the dog got to us before we could leave. So she politely greeted him back, they sniffed for a few seconds, all perfectly good and fine. Dog was young and wants to play, so he offers a couple of very polite play bows, but Menta declines and moves away. Dog gets the message and moves on.
Quite good, right? Here comes the juicy part:
As I’m leaving owner comes to me with a speech more or less like this:
- Hey, if your dog is autistic and doesn’t even play with other dogs, go somewhere else! Don’t come to the park and ruin the other dogs’ days!!!!!

I heard this, a wave of fury started taking over, but suddenly I think I had a lightbulb moment and switched gears completely.

With the biggest, friendliest smile, I opened my arms as wide as I could and go:

- Ohhhhh! Come here! I want to give you a BIG hug!

*panic in her eyes as she backs up, speechless*

- Hey, don’t run, I’m so friendly, come on, I just want to give you a hug! I’m friendly, I just want to hug!!!

*still speechless and backing away with terror now*

- Wait? You don’t want my friendly hug?

-....no...

- neither does my dog. Have a nice day.

As I walked away, I saw her just standing there, speechless, and she was leashing her dog! 😅
I think I’ll try this approach more often 🤣

Q: What's the difference between the animal shelter and the KS Humane Society? They're right next door to one another.

A: The animal shelter, or Wichita Animal Services (WAS), is where Animal Control & Animal Shelter staff are based. The building is able to hold 170 dogs and 252 cats at one time, and is the major holding facility for lost or stray pets in Sedgwick County.

If you have lost your pet, the animal shelter is where you want to begin looking. They maintain a website at http://petharbor.com that lists the pets that have been taken to the shelter by citizens or picked up by animal control officers.

Animal shelter policy is to hold a pet for 3-6 days (depending on whether the animal has a microchip or not) before allowing the KS Humane Society to assess it for adoption if an owner has not reclaimed it. If a pet is not taken by KHS due to lack of room, behavior or medical issues, licensed animal rescues can "tag" the animal for rescue and bring it into the foster system. Animals not picked up by their owners, not transferred to KHS, and not tagged by a rescue due to lack of resources may, unfortunately, be euthanized. This is why WAAL asks for help fundraising and requests volunteers and fosters; we can save so many companion animals when we have someplace for them to go and people to care for them.

Unlike WAS, the Kansas Humane Society is not affiliated with local government and is not supported by tax dollars. It's a nonprofit animal shelter and receives animals that owners can no longer take care of or no longer want, be they owner surrendered or transferred from WAS.

Wichita Animal Services is where you take strays. The KS Humane Society is where you can surrender a pet or adopt a new one.

There is never, ever, any reason to "dump" a pet that's no longer wanted. Wichita is fortunate to have a robust rescue network and all one need do is ask for the help.

Both Wichita Animal Services (animal control) and the KS Humane Society are located at 3303 N Hillside (K96 & Hillside).

We hope your Spring is off to a lovely start! We are moving closer to being able to be in clinic with some of you. We are anxious to be together again!

We did want to update you the rumors circulating about Seresto collars. We have spoken directly with the company, and I've copied some of the information that they sent us. To date, there are no recalls issued on this product, and the EPA has not issued a warning.
Please feel free to call with any questions. We are monitoring the situation carefully and will update you as we have more information. I feel comfortable using this product on my own dogs.

*There is no recall of Seresto products, nor has one been suggested by any regulatory agency
*There is no established link between death and exposure to the active ingredients in Seresto
*The safety and efficacy of Seresto are continuously monitored by regulatory bodies globally as well as via internal processes

*It is important that consumers purchase collars from an authorized clinic or retailer to ensure the authenticity and integrity of the products they are buying.
