Casually looking for a better fit for my Narcotics Lab. If ya'll know any police departments looking for a lab, let me know! He's not free 🙅♀️
Name: Cheddar!

Rescue Dog?: (yes/no) no
Breed/Mix: Lab
Age: 10/1/22
Gender: intact male
Parents If Known: unknown, I attempted to contact the vendor he was purchased from, but they haven't provided the info.

-- Parents Titles: unknown
- Why is this dog a performance prospect? He is an unfinished narcotics detection dog. He has great hunt drive, toy drive, food drive and works hard for kibble. He has started flashy obedience.
- Who evaluated the dog? AK9I and myself, a trainer (I selected him from the dogs they offered).
Strengths: Environmentally stable, people friendly, dog friendly, ignores people and dogs while working, high toy drive (ball on a string is his reward for detection), crate and potty trained, quiet while crated in house and vehicle, chills in the house, easy keeper on food (2.5-3 cups).
Weaknesses: he needs more impulse control work, especially around food and more exposure to different odor sources. What I mean by that is different quality/amounts/cut with different things, etc. He also needs more experience searching in new areas. These reasons make me label him as unfinished.
Other Info: Cheddar has been trained on m**h, he**in, co***ne, m**a, l*d, p*p, fent ( fent is scent logix only). He has a nice freeze/lock at odor, but will sometimes offer a sit or down depending on height. He looooves tugging with his ball on a string for reward. He definitely loves excitement and engagement during his rewards. If you're a stick in the mud, he will lose interested. He's not the type where you have to go over the top with your energy, but it can't be none existent. He also loves fetching his ball if thrown. He doesn't have a soft mouth, he will happily hang from his ball. He about 62lbs right now.
I went through the 13 wk patrol/detector dog trainer course at AK9I with him. Since getting home late December we have reworked some things and improved.
He is Ecollar conditioned for a recall and prong for heel/walk. His commands are words I like selected from different languages. He knows sit, down, crate, up (get on objects), a release word for all commands, to wait for release out of the vehicle and house. He potties pretty well on command. His sit and down is with his rear moving and front staying in place. We've started working on rear end awareness and pivots. He does a pretty nice prancy heel. He is very smart. Picks up on things quickly and enjoys training.
He has done well meeting my board and train dogs and friends dogs. He isn't too fond of over the top excited dogs, but will just ignore and disengage. He does okay for grooming. Bathing, nails, brushing and blow drying. I'm still working with him to get better. He's still a squirmy puppy with handling, also working on that.
He is a pretty happy, goofy guy. Loves flopping onto his side for belly rubs. He is a little soft and seems like he has been handled rough previously. Enjoys hiking, flirt pole, looking for his ball in all places, running with the 4wheeler, cuddling, 2 ball.
I'm looking for a detection home, private or LE. We haven't really bonded like I have with my other dogs. While I love him, I don't *LOVE* him. I'd like to find the perfect home where he works and a handler who LOVES him. I'd also like to devote more time training and competing with my heart dog. I'm not in a rush and will wait for the right working home.
Let me know what videos you wanna see and I'll send or record some!
