It's time to celebrate! We have a new baby Pancake Tortoise at Timberline!

We’re excited to announce the birth of four baby Shinisaurus crocodilurus (Chinese crocodile lizard) at our offices. These are the captive offspring of a pair of approximately two year old Shinisaurus bred here at Timberline. What’s super neat is that we believe one of the four babies is axanthic - meaning its pattern completely lacks the yellows and reds commonly found in this species. Interestingly enough, we now have two generations that display this rare genetic coloration.

In the last 18 months, our three mature females that range from 5-7 years old have gifted us 17 total babies in three litters. This most recent litter is from a group that are only two years old! Our total baby count since January 2023 is now 21!

Our May babies are a couple days old and feeding well on Vita-bug crickets and red wigglers!

Does anyone have creative names for these little babies?

Now happening twice a year, the spring edition of the Phoenix Reptile Expo happens this weekend in Mesa, AZ! This fabulous show packs a punch and vendors from many states flock to it. Come see why thousands of attendees make this a not-to-miss show.

JUST IN: Due to warmer temperatures, the Shawnee National Forest says they have closed Snake Road early this season, effective today.

Bi-annually the Shawnee National Forest closes Forest Service Road No. 345, also known as Snake Road, to help ensure safe crossing for several species of snakes and amphibians during this critical time of migration.

The 2.5-mile-long road is closed in early March to allow snakes and amphibians – some of them considered threatened and endangered in Illinois and the United States – to migrate from their winter habitat in the limestone bluffs across the road to their summer habitat in LaRue Swamp.

Create your own cricket keeper

Create your own cricket keeper from home with 5 simple steps. 1. Cut several holes into your container for airflow. 2. Glue aluminum mesh screens on the inside of container so that all your holes are covered, keeping your crickets from escaping. 3. Insert egg crates. 4.
