Finding a puppy to add to your home is a big decision, and one to not take lightly. While health clearances do not guarantee a dog that will never have health issues, it does stack the odds in your favor. Bringing home a puppy from a breeder that health tests all of their parent dogs is also a way to support ethical breeding practices and ensure the best lives for dogs that are used for breeding. Look for breeders who have a robust puppy program, participate in dog sports and are active in the breed.

Aside from the "Core Four" (heart, hips, elbows, eyes), genetic testing is also highly recommended. Additional optional tests are thyroid, dentition, and patellar luxation.

Red flags:
- "AKC Certified"
- Genetic testing listed and nothing else
- "Health Tested by DNA"
- Staged only photos of puppies
- High pressure sales techniques
- "Champion Pedigree/Bloodlines" but champion titles are multiple generations back
- Breeder allows puppies to go home before 8 weeks old
- "Vet Checked/Certified"
- "Rare White" or "Rare Platinum"

Do not take the breeders word regarding testing. Go straight to OFA’s website and verify.

We are planning an ATT and Fetch trial for June 28th. We are needing volunteers to assist, specifically to serve on the committees.

Volunteers need no experience; they just need to be willing to help along the way and be at the trial.

Keep an eye on the forecast! Brookline Park offers 2 miles of “easy” rated trails, divided into three loops. Trails are dirt/bark, so if the rain decides to hit us hard this week, we will consider relocating to a paved walk or cancel. Puppaccino treats after for our furry friends.

As always, our walks are open to all breeds and you do not need to be a member.

Have you seen the forecast? Winter is giving us a break and our Director of Fun, Mark, has planned a great walk for us. Join The Golden Retriever Club of the Ozarks for a Fit Dog Walk. We will gather Sunday at 1:00 at the Wilson Creek Greenway. Parking lot near 160 and S. Farm 123. Map in comments. As always, our fun events are open to everyone! You do not have to be a GRCO member and all breeds are welcome.
