VCA staff get away to Crying Eagle Lodge in Basile! We all had a great time!

We will be closed tomorrow Saturday September 21st for our staff to be able to enjoy some time away from work for a relaxing weekend trip together! If you have an emergency please call or go to Crossroads emergency clinic in Alexandria! All boarders will be tender to as normal. We will return to regular work schedule on Monday!

Due to the weather, we will be closed Wednesday for Hurricane Francine. Thursday is pending as of now. We will assess the situation Wednesday evening and decide if it is safe for us to come in to work. We will have some available to care for the animals that will be there boarding so don’t worry your babies will be cared for as promised. We hope that every stays safe and has minimal damage or impact from this storm.

Someone left these at our front door this morning. They need homes, we don’t have room to keep them here! Female orange cat, kittens are female except orange kitten is male.

UPDATED! We have power but no internet or credit card machine.

We are out of power and phones. Most of the town is so we are limited to what we can do today. We are doing our best to get things done but we have no access to computers and can’t take credit card payments at this time.

We will be closed Thursday, July 4th! We wish all of you a safe and happy 4th of July! Please remember to keep your pet safe from fireworks and from running away. Have them safe and confined inside or in a kennel. If your pet experiences anxiety during these times we have medication that can help alleviate some of the anxiety!

WARNING GRAPHIC PHOTOS! With owners permission we would like to share this gastric mass removal. This dog came in for not wanting to eat much and the owner noticed her abdomen was swollen on exam and radiographs we found a mass and the owners elected to go to surgery to see if it was resectable. Turns out it was only attached to the outter lining of the stomach wall. We were able to remove it and so far she’s doing well. It will be sent off for analysis to find out if it’s cancerous.

UPDATES GUIDELINES AVAILABLE 📢

The AAEP has issued revised Internal Parasite Control Guidelines to help minimize the risk of parasitic disease and maintain the effectiveness of current drugs for as long as possible by delaying further development of anthelmintic resistance.

The updated guidelines account for recent advances in knowledge concerning increased anthelmintic resistance and optimization of parasite control management practices. They also address common misconceptions and offer parasite control program recommendations for senior horses (over 15 years old), mature horses (between 5 and 15 years old), and young horses (under 5 years old).

The guidelines were reviewed and updated by the AAEP Internal Parasite Control Guidelines Task Force, chaired by Dr. Nielsen and comprised of 10 AAEP members predominantly board certified in veterinary internal medicine, veterinary parasitology and/or veterinary microbiology.
