We always mention the "core" vaccines for dogs, but what are they?
They are rabies, distemper, parvo, and now, leptospirosis.
Rabies, Distemper, also know as DA2PP, and leptospirosis vaccines are all vaccinations for dogs that protect against serious, potentially fatal diseases.
Rabies vaccine
Protects against rabies, a disease that is 100% fatal to dogs and can be transmitted to humans.
Puppies typically receive their first rabies vaccine between 14 and 16 weeks of age.
DA2PP vaccine
Protects against canine distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, and parvovirus.
Also known as the DHPP vaccine, this is a core vaccine that is recommended for all dogs.
Puppies typically receive a series of DA2PP vaccines starting at 6 to 8 weeks of age.
Leptospirosis vaccine
Protects against leptospirosis, a bacterial infection that can damage the kidneys and liver.
Leptospirosis can be transmitted to dogs through contaminated water, urine, or by contact with infected animals.
Puppies typically receive a series of leptospirosis vaccines starting at 12 weeks of age.
