Please refrain from negative comments. This post is to educate people, not to start a debate on how to wipe out the species. Thank you.

We are currently in coyote mating season! During this time, coyotes will be seen during all hours of the DAY and night. If you see a coyote, it's no cause for fear. Most often, coyotes will continue on their way without bothering people. As for your own pets, be smart, keep them leashed and supervised at all times, keep your cats indoors as well. No pet should be left outside unsupervised.

From our friends at Project Coyote:
Coyotes are usually wary of people and will avoid us whenever possible. Bold behavior is unusual and is most often a result of habituation due to intentional or unintentional feeding, the presence of a dog, or the coyote defending a den and young.

If you encounter a coyote, remember the following:
Never feed or try to “tame” a coyote; appreciate coyotes from a distance.

Walk dogs on leashes; pick up small dogs if a coyote is near.
If approached, be BIG and LOUD. You can also scare the animal by blowing a whistle, shaking a can with coins inside. Do not run from a coyote; calmly leave the area.
It's perfectly possible to coexist with coyotes!

We currently have a weather advisory in place, please keep your pets inside. Outside bathroom breaks should be kept to 15 minutes or less.

MGL CH.140 SEC.174E

(d) A person shall not leave a dog outside when a weather advisory, warning or watch is issued by a local, state or federal authority or when outside environmental conditions including, but not limited to, extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow or hail pose an adverse risk to the health or safety of the dog based on the dog's breed, age or physical condition, unless the tethering is for not more than 15 minutes.

(e) An exception to a restriction on outdoor confinement under this section that is reasonably necessary for the safety of a dog shall be made for a dog that is: (i) present in a camping or recreational area pursuant to the policy of the camping or recreational area; or (ii) actively engaged in conduct that is directly related to the business of shepherding or herding cattle or other livestock or engaged in conduct that is directly related to the business of cultivating agricultural products.

always remember this!

It really doesn’t matter if your dog is friendly or not.

What matters is that you don’t take the choice away from another owner (and their dog) as to who they interact with.

There can be so many reasons why a dog and their owner need space from you and your dog.

Please allow them that choice 💙

7/17/23 We know it's been raining non- stop, but now let's talk about all things heat!

With the next few days promising to bring extreme heat conditions to our area, please be reminded that with extreme heat comes dangerous conditions!

Leave your Pets Home:
NEVER leave animals in a vehicle unattended for any length of time. Leaving the A/C on is not acceptable. Vehicles and A/C can malfunction and lead to potentially fatal conditions.

Take short walks:
Watch your pets on walks. The pavement heats up and can cause serious injury to your pets paws. Please, if the pavement is too hot for your bare feet, it is too hot for theirs. Leave them home!

Watch your pets for Heatstroke:
If you notice your pets not acting right after time out in the heat seek medical advice/attention immediately.
Signs of Heatstroke in animals
1) Excessive Panting
2) Excessive Drooling
3) Redness of gums
4) Vomiting
5) Diarrhea
6) Loss of consciousness
7) Uncoordinated movement
😎 Collapse and Unresponsiveness

Brachycephalic breeds (short muzzled dogs) are much more susceptible to heatstroke!

Ensure your Pets are provided shelter to escape the elements as well as plenty of water to hydrate. MGL Ch. 140 Sec. 174E prevents animals being left unattended in extreme environmental elements, such as extreme heat, for long periods of time.
Please take care of and look after your pets and as always your neighbors!

If you see something, say something!

YOU THINK IT'S HOT OUT?
IT'S WORSE FOR YOUR PET IN A CAR

The weather forecasters tells us we're about to get a heat wave, so we want to remind you to not leave your pets in your vehicles. Even with the windows open, your pet can get heat stroke, leading to serious injury or death, when they are left in a car in warm temperatures. As the chart shows, even when its just 70 degrees outside, the temperature inside a car will get pretty high pretty quick. This weekend, and always, please don't leave your pets in a parked vehicle. For bystanders who witness a pet in a parked vehicle on a hot day, please call 911. If a pet is in obvious distress and the situation appears dire, state law allows a bystander to make entry into the vehicle to rescue the pet, even by breaking a window, as long as they have made good faith attempts to locate the owner first and have already called and are still awaiting arrival of first responders.

Guys, I promise this isn’t another usual my-dog-on-leash-other-dog-off-leash type of post. It gets good! (Or I think it does 🤣)

The other day I was on the local public park (not a dog park, but dogs are allowed) walking Menta. We were on a high movement area, so I had her on a leash. Another dog, off leash, sees us and starts approaching. Menta wasn’t interested and started moving away, but the dog got to us before we could leave. So she politely greeted him back, they sniffed for a few seconds, all perfectly good and fine. Dog was young and wants to play, so he offers a couple of very polite play bows, but Menta declines and moves away. Dog gets the message and moves on.
Quite good, right? Here comes the juicy part:
As I’m leaving owner comes to me with a speech more or less like this:
- Hey, if your dog is autistic and doesn’t even play with other dogs, go somewhere else! Don’t come to the park and ruin the other dogs’ days!!!!!

I heard this, a wave of fury started taking over, but suddenly I think I had a lightbulb moment and switched gears completely.

With the biggest, friendliest smile, I opened my arms as wide as I could and go:

- Ohhhhh! Come here! I want to give you a BIG hug!

*panic in her eyes as she backs up, speechless*

- Hey, don’t run, I’m so friendly, come on, I just want to give you a hug! I’m friendly, I just want to hug!!!

*still speechless and backing away with terror now*

- Wait? You don’t want my friendly hug?

-....no...

- neither does my dog. Have a nice day.

As I walked away, I saw her just standing there, speechless, and she was leashing her dog! 😅
I think I’ll try this approach more often 🤣
