I recently helped a family say goodbye to their special girl, Finne. I loved chatting with them about her many amazing Maine adventures. She certainly blessed her family with so many great memories. Here is a beautiful memorial her mom wrote for her. ❤️❤️❤️
Finne - March 15, 2012 to June 20, 2024
It is with profound sadness to write that John and I said good-bye to our precious Finne on Thursday. Finne was diagnosed with large cell lymphoma and we made the heartbreaking decision to let her go knowing that although our hearts are breaking we could not left her suffer from this horrible disease.
Finne was born to her Mom, Molly, and was rescued along with her siblings from West Virginia by a wonderful woman named Cheryl at CT Herding dog rescue. I knew the moment I saw Finne’s picture that she was the one for us and Cheryl gave us the honor of allowing us to adopt her into our family on May 12, 2012. Finne was also lucky enough to see her sister Sydney who came to visit her one summer.
As a puppy Finne was rambunctious and had an independent streak. She never met a hosta she liked and spent hours running thru our gardens crushing every hosta she could find. I knew at that time flower gardens were not in our future.
At three months old Finne began her trips to our camp in Maine where she fell in love with four wheeling. She spent countless hours on the trails year after year with us. I estimated in her lifetime she rode over 25,000 miles, most of them standing up. She spent time looking for wildlife and often saw moose, deer and an occasional bear. She was never a fan of moose and didn’t understand that we were in their woods, they weren’t in hers. Finne also summited Mt. Chase multiple times with her Dad.
Finne would go for an occasional snowmobile ride during the warmer season, and although it wasn’t her favorite thing to do, she did it so she could be with us.
She spent countless hours laying on the deck in Maine watching the Amish wagons go by and sitting in her big log chair near the campfire. She loved when the kids across the street would come over and visit with her.
At home she would spend time outside on the deck. As a puppy it was hard to keep her off of elevated surfaces. I would often find her on the kitchen table, end tables and the coffee table, and how could I say no to her, it brought her happiness being able to see everything. On the deck she would lay on the patio table to watch out over her kingdom like the Princess she was.
Finne spent many days with her best friend Reagan chasing each other around the yard or just laying together in the sun. She also had a special friendship with Boone, Meru and especially Cash who had a little crush on her. She loved swimming in the lake as long as her feet could touch the bottom. On the boat she would stand in the front letting the wind blow thru her fur and watching out over the water as if it was there only for her. Finne also liked to kayak on the lake, unable to use paddles of her own, she was content being pulled around in her own kayak behind her Dad.
At work Finne was the recipient of many butt scratches and treats. She ruled the hallways being the only Princess in the building. She made friends with Rooster, Jack and Bear. She allowed them an occasional sniff here or there but always made sure they knew their place.
This past weekend Finne took her last trip to Maine. She visited her favorite bartender, Vicki, at Shin Pond Village. She had ice cream and a cheeseburger and made many new friends that loved on her. She went on her last ATV rides, they were shorter than she was used to but we saw that she was getting tired. Leaving Maine was difficult knowing our next trip there will be without her.
Finne was loved by everyone that knew her. She will be missed by her siblings, her friends, and especially by John and me.
