g with canine aggression? Brian Berg, owner of K9Basics, is the trainer that other dog trainers seek out when they need help with aggressive dogs. In addition, we offer a program we call Pack to Basics. This is an approach like none other. The key to Pack To Basics is to use the dog's naturally strong social behavior to reduce stress and fear; build confidence and language skills, allowing for many common behavior problems to slip away. Pack to Basics is a comprehensive approach to canine socialization, specifically geared towards dogs with known issues. The program includes everything from the initial evaluation, to preparing dogs so they can safely enter the social arena. These are the dogs who are typically excluded from doggie day-cares and other socialization venues. Pack to Basics offers us an opportunity to help dogs that otherwise might not ever be able to run with other dogs. Our Pack to Basics classes are revolutionary in their approach and in their results. By allowing dogs with difficulties getting along with other dogs, to interact with the right kinds of dogs, they learn not merely to control their aggressive behavior, but to actually enjoy getting along with other dogs. Come visit us and see for yourself how we really do provide the best dog training NJ!

Rawhide chews come in various shapes and sizes, appealing to various dog breeds and chewing styles. They are marketed as being made from natural animal hides, creating a perception of them being a healthy, natural choice. 👎

Despite these perceived benefits, like cooked bones, rawhide chews are not as safe as they seem. ⚠️ The reality is that rawhide dog chews pose significant health risks, including choking hazards, digestive issues, and exposure to toxic chemicals.

✅ Marrow bones are a great rawhide alternative, offering natural nutrition and several benefits. Packed with essential vitamins and minerals, they support your dog's health. Chewing on them helps clean teeth by removing plaque and tartar, promoting better oral hygiene. Plus, they last longer than rawhide, making them perfect for aggressive chewers.
✅ Split elk antlers, naturally shed by elk, are a safer and more nutritious chew option. They’re less likely to splinter compared to rawhide, making them safer for your dog. The exposed marrow is irresistible, and their durability ensures a long-lasting chew experience for dogs of all sizes.

Marking is not bad behavior; it’s a perfectly natural communication method among dogs. But it doesn’t belong in your house. By understanding where the behavior comes from, you can take the proper steps to eliminate the in-house version.

With some time, effort, and understanding on her part, Maryanne finally got Freddie to keep his business card distribution outside of their home. You can do it, too!

Ever wonder if your dog has a favorite? Well, they most probably do! 😬

A pup’s favorite person is the one who gives them the most high-quality time and attention. It’s the person who shares the most positive energy and shows they genuinely care.

Their favorite person is whoever.....gives them attention and affection. The favorite is the person who makes them feel safe and secure and gives them a warm, fuzzy feeling. This is the person whom they will follow around the house like a shadow. ..has a unique personality. Every dog has their own, unique personality, just as we do. Similarly to how we choose our best friends with similar personalities and energy levels, dogs choose their most compatible human companions...have encountered them in the early months. The first six months of a dog’s life are the most vital for socialization. The people they encounter in that period can largely determine who they bond with later in life.

A dogs’ favorite person is associated with their most positive experiences, especially those surrounding feelings of love, shelter, and comfort. They love someone who can make a bad situation better or spend time with them doing something they enjoy. In a dog’s mind, they equate this person to fun, safety, affection, and other good things. Who wouldn’t want to be around a person like that? 💙

So, WHO'S YOUR DOG'S FAVORITE? 😆

🎂🐶💖HAPPY BIRTHDAY💖🐶🎂to our sweet fur baby Takini who turned 1 on 14 January and we celebrated this past Saturday here at K9 Basics with a few clients and staff. Takini enjoyed her fruit and beef heart birthday cake and was showered with multiple gifts!

If not for NorthStar CVT, Cathy K (Maple Shade), who took immediate action to save her life and get her treated, the subsequent emergency care provided by NorthStar Trauma/ER Dr Berg (Maple Shade), the weeks of care/medical procedures provided by the many surgeons at NorthStar (Robbinsville) and the love and attention of her foster mom, Jennifer B, we would not have been able to celebrate this very special birthday!

We also would not have been able to do this without the Love, Prayers and Donations received from our many clients, friends and complete strangers who stepped up to help upon hearing Takini's story. We are truly grateful to all of you!

Fondly,

Lisa & Brian Berg

But don’t worry! With proper care and preventive measures, you can keep your dog’s skin moisturized and coat vibrant all winter. 😊

Spaying and neutering, or sterilization, is the removal of the dog’s reproductive organs, together with the instincts and associated behaviors. Generally, a neutered male or a spayed female dog tends to be calmer and even-tempered. If you don’t want puppies, spaying or neutering will keep your dog from the frustration of not being able to do what instinct compels them to do.

There are other benefits to spaying and neutering, as well as potential disadvantages. Here are some things to know and consider.
