Shown here: Arden enjoying a pup cup. And boy, did he deserve it! This Good Boy gave blood to a dog in critical condition over the weekend. He was so brave and patient during his blood draw and then waited for his mom while she kept an eye on her patient during the transfusion. He deserves all the love and treats he can handle!

Arden was part of the emergency team with Dr. Jen and Techs Alex and Shana. They did incredible work!

Happy Halloween from all of us at AMC! We wanted to take a moment to share some tips to help you keep your pets safe this season.

1. We love candy, but it’s not for pets! Common ingredients in candy like chocolate, xylitol, and even grape flavoring are toxic to pets. Keeping candy away from cats and dogs can be a challenge. We’ve seen it all - Hersheys fed to the dog by toddlers, dogs climbing into cupboards or opening refrigerators - they get resourceful! We even saw a cat loot the candy basket and spill chocolate for the dog. The cat plead innocent, but the jury’s still out on that one.

2. Keep your pup on a leash and your cats inside. Traffic is chaotic on Halloween weekend. Unfortunately, it’s also a time of year when cats, especially black cats, can be taken from their yards. Keep your furry friends close by!

3. The weather is starting to get colder, so now is the time to winterize outdoor kennels. It’s also important to choose pet-safe salt for walkways and driveways. And remember, if you’re cold outside, your pet probably is, too.

Stay safe, and have a Happy Halloween!

Meet Dr. Hanzlicek from MiraVista! He is our go-to for conversations about blastomycosis, an uncommon but potentially serious fungal disease.

You know that phrase, “it takes a village”? It’s true. We’re thankful for the other vet clinics around Marquette, our consultants from afar, and the greater veterinary community for being part of this wonderful network of support and care.
