Encouragement in a new environment allows your pup to explore and be curious! Allowing them to work through their potential cautiousness with praise, and without force, helps work their brains and builds confidence in themselves, and in you as a handler 💚🐾

The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2024 Awards to honor animals, individuals or programs. UPAWS will be presenting the following awards at its Cause For Paws-Party for Pets on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Holiday Inn, Marquette. We received many deserving and amazing nominations and truly appreciate the support from the community and all the nominees. Thank You!

The 2024 Assisi Award is being presented to Kathi Fosburg for her enduring devotion and compassionate care and support for the health and wellness of all animals and UPAWS.

The 2024 Silver Tag Award is being presented to “Sal” for her work as a therapy dog around Marquette County.

The 2024 Purple Paw Award is being presented to “NMU Wildpups”, an embedded animal assisted intervention program that provides recreation, education, motivation and support to enrich NMU’s campus.

The 2024 Gold Heart Award is being presented to Chris Gonyou for his driving passion to have a place to educate the public and change their perception of all reptiles, amphibians and exotics.

We have 2 puppies available, if you are interested please contact us asap and fill out our New Owner Puppy Questionnaire. 🐶 Our goal is to set our puppies up for long term success. 🐶 We plan to keep the puppies until they are 10-12 weeks old. This way they can have essential learning and socialization time with mama, papa, aunties & our community. 🐶 I want to make sure that all of our puppies are provided with the training they need. We are including and requiring a 6 week class ($150 value) provided by Dogs Beyond The Fence LLC.
