https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/12/15/571175252/scientists-say-japanese-monkeys-are-having-sexual-interactions-with-deer Researchers from Wisconsin State University have been conducting a similar study on the Upper Peninsula snow monkey's. Though this phenomenon was relatively unheard of until recently, white tail deer throughout the U.P. have recently started a movement raising awareness of their plight.

Researchers witnessed adolescent female Japanese macaques mounting sika deer in ways that were "sexual in nature." They have several theories for why but say more research is necessary.

We have snow on the ground! And apparently, snow monkey's have been hanging out in people's deer blinds. Be sure to check your deer blind for snow monkey sign before entering as they are known to attack, especially when defending a stash of Kit Kat's or beef jerky.

Snow monkey fan Jen Evans shows her snow monkey pride during this astounding blizzard hitting the state of MI! All the snow and ice have resulted in several snow monkeys crossing the Mackinac Straits and recent sitings in the upper Lower Peninsula. Jen Evans reported seeing a snow monkey carrying a young baby and bunch of bananas early this morning while she was backcountry skiing near her home in Sutton's Bay, MI.

Snow Monkey crime alert! Michigan state troopers are currently on the look out for the snow monkey sketched here by forensic detectives. He is about 2 and a half feet tall, 23 lbs, and last seen carrying a stolen football in the Deerton area. Police received a call from Deerton residents about 7:30 PM last night. They had been watching the Super Bowl in their heated garage and tossing around a football, when the suspect snow monkey lept into the garage and accosted the football. He also cleaned off most of the Super Bowl snack table and took a $20 bill (likely for Kit Kat addictions which are common among snow monkey's). Police reveal that if the snow monkey returns the prized football (a collectors edition) and $20 bill no charges will be pressed by the Deerton residents. Beware Yoopers!

Wow! Mr. Uromaki of Gladstone captured this image of a bobcat's shocked facial expression upon seeing a snow monkey in the Escanaba State Forest last September! Unfortunately, Mr. Uromaki did not send a picture of the snow monkey as well; perhaps the snow monkey was too fast.

This is one of the only videos we have of actual footage of UP snow monkeys; they were seen on the backside of Sugarloaf Mountain near Marquette. This was posted in 2008. If you are able to capture snow monkeys on film; please share!

The extra snowy and cold UP weather has been leading to increased snow monkey sightings and activity! Here at SUPSM we'd like to remind you to roll up your windows and lock your doors if you leave food or shiny objects in your vehicle. Pictured here is a snow monkey fight that occurred this past weekend near Rudyard, MI as a result of a Kit Kat bar left on the dashboard of a unlocked truck. There was not enough Kit Kat to go around, and as you can see, mayhem was the result!

It's prime snow monkey season here in the UP!! Today's featured snow monkey is Octavius (whom enjoys wearing an elf costume during the holiday season). He lives near L'Anse, MI and is known for winning the 2014 Snowmonkey Snowman Building Contest held each February in Hancock, MI. Congratulations Octavius and we hope to see you at the 2015 snowman building championship as well!

Thanks to Helga Hautamaki for sending us this photo of her and a snow monkey that had climbed into her yard water feature in Ontonogan, MI (notice Lake Superior right behind them). It sure has been a great year for snow monkey sightings in the UP!!

This is a pretty incredible. Wildlife photographer, Toivo Maki, is seen here photographing some of the snow monkey's that have been seen around National Mine after this years harsh winter. Wow!

My cousin took this picture of a snow monkey at the base of Marquette Mountain. Shortly after the photo was taken, the monkey hit him square in the face with a snowball.
